Tum schooner Lettie, May, from Annandale, Lot 56, made the voyage to Halifax this spring, and returned on the 30th April. She is now again loaded for her second trip this season.
Tue property of John A. MeKenna, Esq., on the corner of Pownal and Richmond Streets, was offered at auction to-day by Wil- liam: Dodd. The offers made were not such as would induce Mr. Dodd to sell. It was not advertised in the EXAMINER.
Tue St. Lawrence Base Ball Club held their annual meeting last evening at St. Lawrence Hotel, when the following officers were elected :—Sydney Grey, President; J. W. McLeod, Captain; Managing Committee : F. S. Moore, Chairman, W. W. Beer, Benj. Bremner ; Secy.-Tres., F. A. Docherty.
On Monday night some evil-disposed person tore down a portion of the stone wall in front of the residence of J. W. Mitchell, Euston street, and also carried off a piece of plank from his doorstep. A reward of $10 is offered to any one who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the guilty party.
Man Founp Hayeoinc To a Trex.—Wal- lace, N. S., May 2.—This morning a young man named Donald, of Victoria Settlement, 12 miles from here, was found hanging by his scari toatree. He had left home Saturday and had not been heard of till he was found by a party of men who were hunting through the woods.

A Corron Facrory at Truro;—The pro- posed cotton factory at Truro, which that town exempts from taxation for ten years, will have (according to Mayor Longworth’s
} 6,000 spindles, 200 looms, and employ 200 hands. It is the design of the company to further increase the enterpise until they have invested $500,000 in 100,000 cotton
spindles.
TrackreD Across THE ATLANTIC.—Detec- tive Butler, of the Scotland Yard force, arrived on the Quebec Express yesterday en route for England with a young man named Shelton in charge. Shelton was a clerk in the P. 0. Savings Bank, at Hereford, G. B., who had embezzled £60 and escaped to America. The detective arrested him at Coboquet, nine miles west of Toronto. Last November he went to New York, and net being able to do anything there, he took to farming at Coboquet; when the detective arrested him he was following a plough. — Hz. Herald.
Tur Hype Estatr—A $300,000,000 Mar- teR.—The Digby, N. 8. Courier says :— ‘* A letter was handed us yesterday morn- ing, by Thos. Potter, Esq., one of the heirs to this estate containing an abstract from a London paper, which states that the matter has been before the House of Lords, and it has been decided that parties living in this Province, who have had the investiga- tion made, are the lawful heirs, and that the claim is just for the largest amount, sum £60,000,000 cash. Capt. Watt is one of the claimants, and a uumber of others are residents of this county.” There are several of the heirs in St. John and, per- haps, elsewhere in New Brunswick. A sum of $300,000,000 ought to have a good many claimants.

Master Amos McNeill, a blind boy of dibettehs aged 15 years, has won a special pr'z3 at the ‘Institution of the Blind,’’ Halifax, and gained the highest possi ble number of muks for good deportment. Misses Robertina, Ellis, and Sarah McCallum of Georgetown, blind girls of the same Insti- tution, are also mentioned. Mr. Isaac Mc Loan, son of the !ate Minister of Belfast, has distinguished himself all through his college course by tak'ny a jfirst class certificate each year cnd quite a number of prizes. This year
he has stood first class or highest rank in Latin, Greek, Ethics and French. He has won the highest University prize for Classics ; he has gained a first class certificate for merit, and he has obtained B. A. Honors Second Rank in Classics. —Preshyterian.

Summerside *Notes. SUMMERSIDE, May 5.
The steamer St. Lawrence made her first
appearance here fer the season on Friday
last. She left for Shediac with consider-
able freight and 30 head of cattle, about 2
o'clock in the afternoon, and returned Saturday at noon.
!_ The “‘ boys” around town were haying a ‘lively time on Friday night. A paling was thrown through the window of Mr. P. 'Ranahan’s shop, smashing two large panes of glass.
The brig Nimble is being loaded at Hol- man’s wharf with eats for England.
About two o’clock on Sunday morning an attempt was made to enter the store of D. Regers, Esq., on Water Street, by some parties as yet unknown. They com- menced their work by boring a hole through the lock with an auger. One of the police- men hearing a noise, on going to see what it was, the matter was seen by one of the rascals who was on watch, gave warning to his companion, and both escaped. About an hour afterwards they tried the same ex- periment on the door of the Unien Bank ; but where frightened away by the pelice. What their object was in attempting the Bank door is hard to tell. For if they had made anentrance into the building they would still have a hard piece of work ahead of them befere they would be repaid for their trouble.
A cricket club and a base-ball club have been organized here.

The French military journal, Le Journal des Sciences Militaires, has recently made a comparative statement of the strength of the French and German armies. Accord- ing to this statement, the French army has a total of 2,400,000 men who have received training, and 1,330,000 who, though nomi- nally belonging to the army, have never received training. The German army has 2,511,000 who have been trained, 3,345,000 untrained ; or an aggregate of 5,856,000 for Germany, against $3,730,000 for France. In cavalry the Germans have the advan- tage, the figures for the two countries being 91,000 against 70,000. In artillery, how- ever, the French are the stronger, claiming 2,442 guns, against 2,124 guns for Germany.
