| Friday evening last, to take iuto considera tion the proposed tax upon Real Estate and Income. After the usual preliminaries and several excellent and telling speeches had beca made, the following resolutions were put and unanimously carried :—
1, Resolved, That in view of the present strenuous opposition ef the landlords to the proposed tax by the Civic Council of Charlottetown on Real Estate and the

Whereas, All the improvements mace in the City since the Incorporation have been paid for by taxation out of the pockets _of the tenants, the City Council be asked to levy all taxes on Real Estate, and Horses and carriages, and upon Ineomes exceeding ' $500 of citizens who pay no Real Lstate ‘tax, and two dollars per head upon ali , voters. 5. Whereas, The Government has seen fit to exempt from income taxation all | officials of the Government and clergy ; | Resolved, That we strengthen the hands {of the City Council to frame such law and jto enforce it that shall deny the right of jeitizenship to all men who do not coniri- | bute something towards the City fund.

Let ua first notice the position of the Moon. As the last quarter will take place June 18th, the time selected is most unfor- innate for the seer in this respect, for then the moon’s attraction will be nearly at a quadrature with that of the Sun,—-the time veing that of neap tides,—which of itseli will be suffivient to take three-fourths .ef the edge off his argument. ae
As for the planet Mercury, it has just passed its superior eonjunection, (May 17th) end on the 19th June will be 1 hour and 49 jainutes East of the Sun, as seen from the Earth, and about its mean distance from the centre of the System. This differs materially from its representation in the diagram.
Neither will Venus be in the direction in- dicated, aa iis inferior conjunction oceurred en the 2d of May, and consequently it will be 2 hours and 58 minutes in advance ef the Sun on the 19th of June. Here is a nice little disagreement again.
No conjunction of Mars has taken place, nor will any occur during the year 1881. (Its opposition will be Dec. 24th.) On the 19th of June it will be 4 hours and 5 min- utes in advance of the sun; and ae its ‘perivelion willtake place on the 26th of | May, » e must rule it out of the threaten-

| Jupiter, the larvest of all the planets, jpassed its conjenction on the 22nd of | April; and will, therefore, be on the 19th of | June, 2 hours and 25 minutes,or 37 degrees jin advance of the Sun.
Saturn’s conjanction took place on the 21at ef April, only two hours in advance of i.Jupiter. Right ascension on the 19th ef |.June, 2 hours aud 55 minutes, or over 43 | dewrees in advance ef the Sun.
| Uranus was in opposition on the Ist of | March; it will be in quadrature on the 30th ‘of May, and not in conjunction till Sep- itember Gth. At the time predicted it will be 6 hours and 24 minutes East of the Sun, or nearly in opposition to the Moon, and esrtainly not in a position te eid in a general conspiracy against the Karith
Last of all we have Neptune, whose con- junctien was passed on the Srd of May. On the 19th of June it will appear abeut 2 heures and 28 minutes in advance of the Sun, ;and about three-quarters of a degree south of Jupiter.
From these phenomena of the planets it appears ihat at the time referred to, the right aseension of Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune will only differ about 74 de- grees, and their declination less than half ‘nat amount. So neer a proximity of four of the prineipal planets can only take place at long intervals;—although they will be somewhat cleser on the 18th than on the 19th;—but then the 8un, Moon, Mercury and Uranus will be so differently situated from what has been represented, as to leave no ground ef apprehension on aceount ef their cembined attractive influence.
Had the writer of the article in question selected the time of new moon, on the 27th of April, he might have made out « much better case; for then Venus was within five days of conjunction, and Neptune six days, while Jupiter and Saturn were only the same number of days past their conjune- tions, and Mercury and Mars much nearer than they will be on the 19th of June. And since that time passed by without disaster, no one need be under the least eoncern on account ef the aspect of the planets Curing the remainder of 1881.
Park Corner Notes.
The farmers in this section of the coun- try are gsiting along aplendidiy with their planting, considering the backward spring.
James Doyle has a very fine messenger colt. He has, wa undersiand, been offered $120 for him, and refxsed the offer with the expectation of getting a better price.
Capt. James Reynolds, while in A. Mo- Leod’s employ, fell the other day from a loed of hay, and get very badly hurt.
Park Corner School is progressing well under the efficient management of J. Mar- tin There was a concert held here some jtime ago for the pupils, and it proved a ' grand success.
The long and much looked for gasper- |eaux have come at last; but the people are prohibited from catching them, and are watched strictly by the Inspector.
Lobster business is the tepic of the day in this city. Wm. MeLeod, Esq., has erected a large factory. We wish him every success in his undertaking.
