Road Aces Organized In Ch'iown

Early in the Fall of 1955 a num- ber of local Motor Cyclist expres- sed a desire to organize as a club. with this in mind they contacted Constable William .J. R. MacDon- aid of the Charlottetown detach- ment of the R. C. M. P. Under his guidance and supervision the Charlottetown Road Aces came in- to being. The following officers were elected: President Allison Bullman; Vice-president Allan MacRae; Secretary Norman Tweel and Treasurer Harvey Ford the membership now has a total of

At the start the group was with- out a clubroom and through the co-operation of Mr. James Fuller- ton. City Clerk at room was placed at the disposal of the club. Even- tually it was able to obtain rooms in a building behind the Charlotte Hotel on Kent Street. After a great deal of time and effort the boys have 'now completed the decorat- ing and furnishing the club. the whole being done by the boys themselves.

,During the remaining winter months, stress is being laid on First Aid Training through the Red Cross Disaster Services, with Mr George Mullally a student at S. D. U. who is also a qualified Red Cross First Aid Instructor in charge. On completing the Stand- ard First Aid course. it is antic- ipated the boys will continue in Red Cross Disaster Services and take the advanced First Aid Course with specialized training in resus- citators for emergencies. At the

' firm of this nine weeks' course the candidates will be test- ed in the theory of first aid and the practical skills in bandaglng. splinting. artificial respiration and transportation of injured. The sue cessful candidates will be award- ed Red Cross Certificates. pins and badges.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

After the Red Cross section the next item on the programme is to get all motor cycles in top mec- T l ' condition to ensure safe and courteous driving during the coming season. this part will be carried out under Constable Mac- Donald's supervision. The constable will also give the boys lectures and training in - traffic control, this training will enable them to temporarily control traffic in the vicinity of an accident. should one be discovered by them. until police officers arrive.

Mr. J. Gordon MacDonald. Chsirm of the Red Cross Dis- aster Services. said that after cam- pleting their instruction, the boys of the club would make a valuable unit in disaster work or for any other emergency that may arise within the Province.

During the summer months the Club members will be on the roads a great deal. and no doubt their services, courtesy and training will be appreciated by the travel- ling public. They will be easily identified by their black leather jackets and colorful crest and shoulder Hashes. it is planned to conduct group excursions both within and outside of the Pro- Vince. these will be supervised by a "Road Master" who will be I fully qualified member of the club.

The meetings which are held weekly are well attended and are divided into business and training periods. the later proving very beneficial to the -members. The manner in which these boys have urganized and conduct themselves, there is every reason to believe they will prove to be an asset to the area and to touring public.
