The remains of the late Mrs, P. A. MacDonald, who recently died at Tignish, arrived in Sourls, Monday, January 26th, accompanied by Mr. MacDonald, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Mc- Carthy and Mr. Claude Kinch, Tig- nish, Mr. and Mrs. Lelghtizer and Mrs. Mumaghan, Charlottetown, and were immediately conveyed to the home of her mother and step-father Mir. and Mrs. Bernard Creamer, where it lay in waking and was view- ed by many of her former friends and playmates who were deeply grieved by the early passing of their beloved Hylda. ’ ~ Wednesday morning a long proces- sion followed the mortal remains to St. Mary's Church, where a Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. In the passing of the late Mrs. Emily Davies, which occurred on the 16th instant. Charlottetown, and the Province‘ has lost a highly esteemed and widely known resident.

Born in this city on the 28th of October, 1849, Mrs Davies was the fourth daughter of the late Robert Bruce Stewart ol Strathgartncy. In the your 1891 she was married to the late Honourable Daniel Davies, who was nominated to attend the Quebec Confederation Conference in 1804, and for many years extensively en- gaged in the ship building and com- mercial llfc of this Province.

When the flames which destroyed "Edgewater," the magnificent resi- dence of Hon. Frank R. Heartz, sub- sided yesterday, Mr. Hearts had an opportunityto realize the full extent of the loss sustained in addition to the mansion and its furnishings.

A great‘ many articles to which there was sentimental value attach- ed, and many objects of great intrin- sic worth were reduced to ashes. Autographed photographs beautifully framed of Lord and Lady Willing- don, Viscount Byng and Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin and other very highly prized remembrances of dis- tinguished visitors were destroyed. During a. trip through fourteen foreign countries, Mrs. Hcartz and Miss Ruth took a large number of ifine snapshots, and acquired many interesting mementos. Mr. I-ieartz had a very fine collection of tie pins, including several given him by the Duke of Devonshire, when the latter was Governor-General of the Do- minion. A fine collection of water colors by eminent British artists, was lost, as well as an oil painting of the late Benjamin Heartz, Mr. Heartzs father. A great deal of the furnishings destroyed might have been saved had there been a salvage corps at work, Mr. fi-leartz believes. The fire was concealed in the walls and floors, and at 10 o'clock had apparently been ex- tinguished, but in a very short time it had burst through the roof. By opening folding doors and re- moving curtains, almost the entire ground floor could be made into a single room. There were twenty-six rooms in the building. Mr. I-Ieartz states that he may re- build next year on the site formerly occupied by Edgewater. _If he should do so the new residence will be very much smaller than the one.which has been destroyed. , .____
