NEW YORK, July 26.. — Chicago Cubs continued their nn-eafoning at- titude toward the embattled candid- ates for ths National League lead today by belting over Brooklyn Dodgers for the fifth time in succes- sion, 4-2 at Chicago. The triumph gave Chicago a rec- ord of 16 victories in 19 games; against the invading east-cm clubs of the circuit and 19 in the last 22 starts. ‘

Tex Carleton turned in s. neat five-hit pitching performance to check the Dodgers, giving up only one blow in the first six frames then easing up when the game was safely won. Two doubles by Sam loslie spoiled a shutout. Sam hit the first in the seventh inning and scored on singl by Danny Taylor and Ralph Boyle. In the eighth he doubled again to drive in Lon Koen- ecke.

Watson Clank was the victim of s three-run rally in the third which decided ths game but won the dis- tinction of being the only southpaw except Carl i-lubbell of New York Giants to go the routo against Chi- cago this season.

"The Garden has made me a. fine offer for Sclimeling to fight Max Baer.” he said, "and the 20th Century Club also gave me a fine proposition for a. fight. with Joe Louis.
