ROME, April 23—ltaly‘s motor- ized infantry is climbing the last plateau leading straight to Addis Ababa, the army command report- ed tonight.

A communique from ‘Marshal Pietro Badoglio, commander-im chief in East Africa, placed the ad- vancing soldiers 140 kilometres (92 miles) from Dessye, field head- quarters of the northern army. This means they have covered nearly two-thirds of the distance between Dessye and Addis Ababa.

In his last budget Mr. Dunning was able to show a gurp‘us of about $80,000,iX)0 which was applied to reduction of the public debt. He was able to out the sales tax and what were termed nuisance taxes. He was not called upon t) make an pro- vision for Canadian National Rail- ways deficits.

The financial sky this bucket» will not be so bright. A deficit is expected of around $140,000,000 of which $47,421,484 will be to cover in- terest on Canadian National secur- ities held by the public. While the minister will probably be able to show a slight surplus of ordinary revenue over ordinary expenditure the extraordinary expenditures in- cluding relief are expected to pile up the total deficit.

The budget this week will cover seven months under the Conserva- tive governmen; headed by Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett and five months un- der Premier Mackenzie King. The most important change during the year was the effect of the trade treaty with the United States which became operative Jan. 1,

ANTIGONISH, N. S._ April 28, - l-ion. William Chisholm, former, leader of the Liberal Opposition in the Nova Scotia Legislature, who won the title of "Benny Fighter". when he led two supporters against: 40 government members after the election of 1925, died here today.’ He was in his 66th year.

The veteran parliamentarian, whq for 28 years represented Antigonisn in either the federal or provincial parliaments, was never defeated in an election. He retired in 1933 be- cause of ill-health. He was taken seriously 111 last Tuesday and com- plications followed which resulted in his death early this morning_

William Chisholm was one of the most colorful figures in the public life of Nova Bcotia. and because on the spirited leadership in the Legig- lature from 1925 until 1933 his name’ will long be known in political his- tory in this province.

Born in the little community at Heaterton, a few miles from Anti- gonish, he was descended from the Scottish pioneers who settled in that section of Nova scotia. He was ed- ucated at St. Francis Xavier Uni. versity. ‘flintigonish, and taught school before he was called to the bar in 1895. He was appointed riot- ary public in 1904.

In 1905 he was elected to the Fed. eral Parliament and was re-elected in 1908 and 1911. In 1916 he re- -‘filmed his seat to contest Antigonish in the provincial elections and was elected. In January 1918 he was made a member of the Murray Cab- inet without portfolio and on the reorganization of the government Mr. Chisholm continued under Pre- mier Armstrong as Minister of Highways,
