. The format of the show is similar to' “Reach for the Top”. There will be an “Academic Advisor” to make‘rulings and a moderator,sBill Walker. Participating Universities will receive scholarships ofan as yet unknown nature (Vague-isn’t it), ' with the winning university in each contest getting a bigger one than the loser. An interesting feature of the game enables a winning team to ‘keep playing and winning scholar- ships until it is beaten.

Part of the half-hour show will be used to blurb the participating univ- ersities. Each university is expected a 16 millimeter silent colour-film about points of interest on the camp- us. George Welch, head of UPEI’s Audio-Visual department is expected to do this. One member of the pan- el will be designated to read a des- cription of the campus, an accom- paniment to the film.

A series of ‘challenge’ matches be- tween schools in Canada, Britain and the United States (for example, be- tween U. of Toronto and Columbia ) is included in the series.

According to Executive Producer Lorne Freed, the questions range from ‘poetry to politics, art to Ast- tonomy and sports to Science.’

‘ University Challenge’ is intended by CTV to be a program which truly reflects our education instit- utions. -

RIFLE CLUB

There will be a meeting at 7:00, September 28, in the gymnasium of all students and faculty interested in joining the Rifle Club of UPEI. This club has been an active one at UPEI for the past year. The mem- bers, both men and women, could use 22 calibre target rifles. They meet once a week at the RCMP. Rifle Range for shooting practise.

approximately 30 members and for further information, come to the meeting on the 28th or contact the Department of Athletics and Phys- ical Education and Recreation.

Although hockey, basketball, volley ball seasons may seem far in the fut- ure, it is well known that the road to good conditioning for these sports is a long one. For this reason you may see evidence of our winter sea- son athletes running about the camp- us or sweating it out in a dedicated fashion in the weight room. One added feature this year is that pre- season conditioning is being carried on in a formal basis every afternoon at 4 :30 pm.

If you intend to compete for one of the coveted positions on a var- sity team, you should be there. The group meets at the gymnasium and goes from there to a variety of act- ivities designed to increase fitness specifically for the sports involved.

Not only did classes start last week but so did the Men’s Intramural Pro- gram is run both in the Fall and Win- ter terms. The equipment and fac-. ilities are donated by the U.P.E.I.’ Athletic Department.

Purpose of the Intramural Act- ivity Program . at U._P.E.I. is to pro- vide an opportunity for every stu- dent to take part in a large variety of activities; and to encourage and promote competition among groups of students who are either not int-

erested‘in or sufficiently proficient

for varsity competition.
