OTTAWA, April B-JGP) — The new commander in chief of Can- ada's reserve army believes that force may have to fight and means to make it ready to fight in the shortest possible time.

He is Mal-Gen. B. W. Browne wFose appointment to the new post of Director-General. reserve army, thwarted the realization of his one hope to get into service overseas.

Local Airman Missing after Air operations

Mr. and Mrs, Albert E. Baker, Charltotelown, were notified by cable yesterday that their son, Acting Flight Lieutenant Edward Donald Baker "is reported to be missing as the result of Elli‘ opera- tions on the night of 1-2 April, 1942." The telegram from the Air Officer in Chief of the R. C. A, F‘. Overseas promised that any fur- ther information received would be forwarded immediately.

Flt. Lt. Baker. who was born ln Sumincrside ‘J3 yours ago, has been on operational flying since last September. For several months he urns the only Canadian in a Royal Air Force squadron but was re- cently transferred to a Royal Canadian Air Force unit_ It was Wllllf‘ engaged in air operations with the latter that he failed to return to base.

Dispute stops Shipbuilding

115131343, April 5 —-(CP) -'I‘wo shipbuilding companies stopped work in their yards Saturday when workers complained against the cn- forcement of a new wage scale.

About 3,000 workers of the Davie Shipbuilding Company and about 800 at the Morton Engineering com- pany were affected by the move which came after many complained of wage decreases in Friday's pay.
