The Military Situation.

A Russian dispatch say that Grand Duke Nincholas entered Kars on Monday, and received the homage of the inhabitants,
The interest of the war now centres on Plevna, Rustchuck and the Lom, where important movements are progressing.
Since the fall of Kars, one party at the Russian headquarters urges that the Turks be stripped of Roumelia, and that the Russian troops make a dash at Schipka and the neighboring passes of the Balkans making the 60,000 men now concentrated at Tirnova available for that purpose, as soon as Mehemet Ali mikes a movement for the relief of Plevna. On the other hand there is a disposition to await the movement of the Turks, fearing Mehe« met’s tactics for the relief of Plevna may result in his threatening the Czarowitch’s communications with the crossings of the Danube.
There is no news from Pievna, except that a Bucharest dispatch states that a regular bombardment of the place has at last been opened,

At acouncijl of war, Phillippoft, a pro- minent general, recommended that a corps be left to cover Erzeroum, while the re- mainder of the army pushed through Asia Minor to Seutari.

A Russian official despatch claims that the Turks, after a stubborn engagement lasting from nine o’clock in the morning until six o’clock in the evening, were everywhere repulsed, but admits that the Russian outposts were temporarily driven in. Both accounts agree that the Turks, after severe fighting, temporarily occupied and burned Pjiogas.
The Russians state that so far 85 of their wounded have been brought in.

On Wednesday evening last Mr. Thos. Curran, lumber merchant of Miramichi, was either robbed of or lost $800 in cash and $100 in promisscry notes. Mr. Curran states that on Wednesday evening, after paying 4 bill at the store of Mr. Charles Robertson, he proceeded to Pownal Street where he met two sailors named Gillis and McMahon. He had some drinks with the parties named in Mr. James Currie’s, where he left about ten o'clock in their company and proceeded to the house of Robert Minard, Shortly after his arrival at Minard’s he missed his pocket book. Search was made, but without success. A suspicion was laid on Gillis and McMahon. They were arrested and brought before the | Magistrate this morning. The evidence yet produced is slight. They were re- manded for eight days.
