THE SUMMER SCHOOL OF CORNELL UNIVERSITY.
The seventh summer session of Cornel! University will te held from July 5 to August 13,1898. An announcement of the courses of instruction, just issued, shows that fourteen departments of study will be represented, in addition to the courses in the College of Law, and that, in the aggregate, more than 70 courses will be offered. Particularly valusble opyortunities will be found for doing uni- versity work in university buildings and under the direction of university in- structore, in the languages, ancient and modern, and the natural sciences, physics and mathematics, chemistry, botany, etc. Other courses are offered in philosophy, elocution, drawing, desigoing, experimen- tal engineering, etc. The surroucdings of Ithaca are considered by many travellers to be of almost nnequalled beauty and picturesqueness, and maked the famed campus “far above Cayuga’s waters,” an inspiring place of study in summer as well as in winter.

The bargain now proposed with the Drummond Railway company is $600,000 better to the country thav the one which Mr. Blair tried to force through parlia-
ment last year. Itis still far too bada bargain for the country. For we have
still no statement of an improved bargain with the Grand Trunk companv’ = The contract made last year required the pay- ment of $100,0°0 a year forthe raiway to be used in common and for the Inter- colonial share of the terminus. As_ the goveromest now borrows money, this is equal to a casa payment of $3,400,- 0U0. The total value of this railway anc terminus is estimaied by Mr. Schreiber and Blair at $3,750,000—that is $2.500,000 for the station, freight house, part of the work sheps, and that part of the vard used in common. This means that the Intercolo~ nial assumes $3,400,000 of the burden of providing property for the joint occupation, while the Grand Trank assumes $350,000.
