Today is nomination day in Summerside and each of the three wards will be contested. in the East Ward. Mr. W. E. Jenkins will oppose Mr. J. Lloyd Gorrill. in the Centre Ward. Mr. T. D. Theft oflruck

Two summerslde youths ap- peared before Magistrate E H. Strong in Sumniei-side Police

Court yesterday morning in con- nection with the theft of a truck belonging to Harold lVl:iacLeod of Summerside. The Lava youths each received sentences of one month in jail.

Two others who were Juveniles, and who were involved in this same truck theft had been releas- ed less than two weeks previously from the industrial Home for boys in saint John N. B. These two were held in jail pending notifi- cation to the home. and having violated their parole they have been returned to the home to coni- plete their sentences.

Chief of Police Peter white, in his remarks to the court under- lined the seriousness of the in- clination of man,v Summerslde youths towards activities outside the law.

He said he wished to impress on the boys in court the seriousness of the many crimes with which youths of this town had been as- sociated. He said this disregard for law and property of others cannot be allowed to continue.

The chief cited the two most rc- cent car thefts-the truck in que- stion. and a doctor's car-and ask- ed the boys to realize that these vehicles were used by their owners in making their living and helping life within the community. He said the truck owner was put to the expense of buying a new radi- ator for his truck, and the doctor had expenses of approximately 3400.00 in repairing his car. after it had been stolen and damaged.

The Chief asked the Magistrate for a lesser penalty for one of the two boys who received sentences of one month, because the Chief said. he had co-operated fully with the police during the investigation of the theft with which they were charged.

In conclusion the Chief said that boys inclined to mlschevlous act- ions of a criminal nature should not any longer be allowed to roam the streets lndlscriminatey and commit theft and damage to prop- erty. .
