LONDON (CP)-A veteran Cana- dian pilot said Thursday he's con- vinced he has just seen flying ob- jects from another planet.

Francis Lehman (Lee) Boyd, of Fillmore. Sask.. said he and fellow crew members of a British air- lin.cr observed the objects - a 'mother-" ship and six satellite craft--for some 20 minutes Wed- nesdsy over the Atlantic near Lab- radar.

"The things, whatever they were, were intelligently controlled and manoeuvred." said Boyd. war-dec- orated veteran with a total of l.500.000 air miles to his credit. ''I don't think any science on this planet coul pr uco them."

The 33-year-oi airman. with is years' flying experience, was co- pilot with Capt. James Howard of Bristol on a British Oversees Air- ways Corporation Strstocruiser fly- ing from New York to London. Both men sighted the strange objects at the same time, about 0 miles southwest of Goose Bay. Labrador.-

CHANGED SHAPE

Boyd said in a telephone inter- view from his home in Bristol:

"There was one large ship which changed shape from time to time

"We had a perfect vew. the sky was absolutely clear with a little cloud down at 8,000 feet. The ob- iects were to the west of us and outlined against the setting sun.

"The captain and I just sat star- ing at them goggle-eyed. We wat- ched them for several minutes- neither wanted to mention to the other what we were seeing. Then I radioed Goose Bay and asked if there were any other aircraft in the area. They said we were the only ones up there." A

Boyd said they watched the ob- jects for 18 minutes, during which time they travelled about 80 miles. and all crew member. were called to confirm the sight. They did.

"We didn't say anything to the passengers because we didn't want to alarm them but after we landed five or six of them came. to ask us whether we had seen the ob- jects."

Two United States jet fighters were dispatched from Goose Bay. One had to turn back. As the second closed in. the formation faded away.

Boyd is a veteran of eight years with the RCA)? and seven with BOAC.

"I'm not just trying to get my name in the newspapers. I'll swear those things were solid; We had such a long time to watch them. -they flew at the same speed and same height as we did."

Chief Justice Kerwin is im Eng- lish-spcaking Roman Catholic. One of the highlights of his long career was his judgment earlier this year. breaking a 4-4 court tie and thus granting ii Jehovah witness appeal against a Quebec law which forbid them distributing religious tracts on the streets of Quebec province.

He was married in 1914 to the former Georgina Mary Mace of Toronto. They have three children. a daughter and two sons. .

Mr. Justice Abbott, a Liberal, successfully contested the St. An- toine-Westmount seat in Montreal and entered the Commons in 1940. He kept his seat in succeeding elections.

In 1945. he was appointed dc- fcnce minister for naval services in the Mackenzie King cabinet; be- came defence minister for the army later that year: god the fol- lowing year took over the finance portfolio.

--Under command of Wing Commander H. A. Forbes, D.F.C., C.D., commanding officer of the Central Navigation School, RCAF Station. Summerside. a Lancaster bomber took off from the Sum- mcrsidc Station on Tuesday after- noon and flew direct to Goose Bay. Labrador. It was originally expected that the plane would go in Frobisher Bay on Baffin is- land. The object of the flight was to view the northern lights through the eclipse of the sun. Wing Commander Forbes said 188! night. however. that no nor- thern lights were to be seen but that the crew had an excellent view of the total eclipse. it was necessary, he said. to fly at an altitude of 18.000 feet. in order to clear the clouds but from this height they were able to view the eclipse withoutvsny inter- ferenrs. The position of the plane when in the path of totality was near the small settlement of Nulak. Northern Labrador. The plans took off from Goose Bay at 6:30 s.m. and flew to this position.
