Following an impressive sermon by Rev. H.B. Jones, many came forward and rededicated their ives to Jesus Christ. The church choir, with Mrs. Keith Rogers as organist, sang as an anthem“P'l- lot Me, 0 Saviour”. The benedic- tion was pronounced by Allison MacKinnon.

‘Lorne Wigginton on behalf of the Men’s Association, expressed his appreciation to Rev. EB, Jones of North Carolina, who has been the guest preacher at all ser- vices, including those at Valley- field and Millvtown.

Rev. Fraser thanked the vari- ous choirs for leading in the ser- . vice of praise, also I.G. They weren’t there in person but in the words and tones—gen- erally sober, sometimes eloquent and always cultured—of the dele. gates who represent them.

Another army also marched through the meeting place.

This one bore stocks of food which could feed the hungry peo- ple and stocks of raw materials which could be fashioned into things which would improve their way of life.

Neither was this army present in person—nor its cargoes , of wheat, its stocks of butter, nor its ingots of metals.

It, too, was there in the words 0! delegates from countries which are feeling recession because they have found no way to market goods in sutficient quanti- Ies.

BUT HOW?

Missing was a practical and ef- fective way of bringing together the armies of want and the arm- ies of wealth.

To find such a way is one of

conference. On its ability to reach such an objective will rest in large measure its success or fail- ure, and perhaps the futuer of the Commonwealth as a continu- ing entity.

It was easy to torget these things in the luxury of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Canada’s newest showplace of comfort and abund- ant food.

But they were there in the words of country other country whose peoples are seeking to emerge into a better way of life.

In this, the conierence consists of two types.

There are such countries as, the United Kingdom, Canada, Aus- tralia, New Zealand and South Africa which—though they have their economic problems —— have achieved for their peoples a high standard of living.

And there are’the countries of Asia and Africa which have yet to develop their resources to the highest good of their peoples and who need help to do so.

Appeals for such help were made in polite phrases and at least some encouragement was given by representatives of the more highly-developed Common- wealth countries.
