Since the commutation of the death sentence of John Esterbee, for the murder of his brother in St. Catherine’s, Ontario the rather unlikeiy story is told by the telegraphic correspondent of the St. John lelegraph :—‘* Before the commutation. Esterbee appeared to be quite indifferent to the fare that seemed to be im store for him. A number of people who went to see the scaffuld which had been erected in the jail yard, and Esterbes, noticing this, suggested the propriety of ch rging au admission fee of five or tea cents each, to be applied to his ben fit, aa it was hisshow. His mother is reported to have said that she hoped her son would be hangad. She did not want him to be sent to ap asylum or penitentiary, because he would get out of there some time asd then he might kill them all, but if he was hanged th-re would be anend tohim,. On Tuesday last the mother, sister and three brothers visited the jail, aul went into the yard to aee and examine the scaffold. One of the brothers underteok to show the othera how it worked.
