OPINION & COMMENTARY

The 4th Meeting of the UPEISU Student Council was held on October 24th and it turned into a 5+ hour marathon.

President

- Clare had a meeting with Bob Gibson to discuss the code of con- duct.

- Parking issues were brought up to Gary Bradshaw and it was recom- mended to trade in passes for a CARI pass if spaces are found to be limited.

- "Safe Talk" is going to be devel- oped on campus allowing students to have direct contact with security on their walk home if they so choose. Several fundraisers will be held to raise funds for the program.

- The sexual assault issues on cam- pus are bing taken extremely seri- ously by not only the Student Union, but also the administration of the university and a task force has been created to deal with this issue.

VP Finance

- Britt had hiring board to go over and they were covered in new business. ;

Executive VP - Mark is reviewing the opt outs from the medical plan, the deadline

has passed but there is still the pos- sibility to opt out. —

- The possibility of having a

Christmas tree where individuals could purchase decorations, the proceeds of this would go to a worthy cause.

- A town hall meeting with Mildred Dover concerning post secondary | education is to be arranged.

VP Activities

- Nov Ist was the last day for soci- eties to register.

- The Christmas Semi-Formal Dance is being planned and will be campus wide. Date to be con- firmed.

- Events schedules for November will soon be available.

Senate - Nothing to report.

BOG - Developments in regards to the new NRC building are looking positive

MAPUS

- Margaret along with Liz Sentner had a meeting in regards to the Centennial Scholarship. It was expressed that the University President would like to see the pro- gram dissolved.

GSA

- Seminars are bing held for gradu-.

ate students as well as fourth year students interested in graduate studies about student award appli- cation. LS

- There was mention of an ethics workshop in regards to the human

related sciences.

Science

- Chemistry had a booth set up in the Charlottetown mall to raise awareness for Chemistry Week.

- The ping pong table from the engineering lounge went missing and it could be due to some liabili- ty issues.

- The Math Society is up and run- ning and the first meeting was held. The Math Help Centre is available for student use, located in the pit of the library from 330pm- 7pm daily.

Business

- Shelley met with the Business Society and a pub crawl is sched- uled for November 19th, 2004.

- The Business Society will be at the next Chamber of Commerce mixer on November 18th.

- Ryan wondered if there was some type of a deal set up with the University and Dell to get dis- counted prices on computers for students.

Arts

- The Soc./Anth. Society are look- ing to have sweaters made and to update the website. They held a "Johnny Dep-athon" on October

30th

- History Society currently has 11 members and discussion is now

_ taking place in regards to executive — _ breakdown.

- The Music Department held it's annual haunted house.

- The Psychology Society held a fundraising car wash at Burger on the 30th and had a night of psycho- logical thrillers on the 3 1st.

That's it for now, hopefully some- one...just 1 person actually read this whole thing. I'll apologize for

the "dryness" of it, but hey... what

can ya do? As always, minutes will be posted on the SU Website and all Student Council Meetings are open to the public, the next one and last one before X-Mas will be on the 21st of November. So come on out... that's it for me...
