QUEBEC. March l! - (OP) — Damage was estimated at 0100.000 in s Qectactilar fire which to- night blalied through a furniture factory, a saw mill, a lumber yard, two residencu and a barn in sub- urban Beauport.

At least one man was under medical care l: a result of the rim. He was watchman Bylvlo Par- ent who wss reported suffering from nervous shock and acute in- digestion.

The man was so startled by the sight of the flames which surged up in a fetw minutes that he faint- ed. He was taken to hospital. Oth- er ambulames were on the site of the fire.

At 10:60 RM. firemen were still working hard to keep the wind- ranned flame: in check. Snow blower: roared through the area gushing ton: of snow all around the flaming lumber- and buildings.

The nearby heme of Phlleas Grenler, secretary of the Municipal Council of Besuport, waa razed shortly after the fire broke out and adjoining offices of the Caisse Populaire (Credit Bank) of the locality was a complete loss. A barn and its content: also were destroyed.

Firemen were concentrating on saving five homes located in the immediate vicinity of the fire.

All traffic into the eastern part of Quebec was stopped.

Fire broke out shortly before seven o'clock in the lumber mill of Joseph Grenier, Co. Ltd; on Royal Avenue and in a few minute: the eastern section of Quebec was. sglovv with high-leaping flames.

M". J. LeRoy Holman, Summer- side. president and general manag- er of R. T. Holman, Ltd. died suddenly yesterday morning at nine o'clock at Daytona. Beach. Florida. where he had been on a ‘ix weeks vacation with Mrs. Hol- man. The word was received in Bummerside shortly after and it was learned that death had been caused by a paralytic stroke. Mr. Holman was 67 years of age. Ai- though he had suffered a slight. stroke about a year ago he was in apparent good health prior to leav- lng on his vacation.

In his earlier years Mr. Holman was an athlete and took a pro- minent part in local sports; later he always gave his support and encouragement to all sporting activities. He was. an enthusiastic golfer and for many years took an active interest ii the Summer- slde Golf Club.

For a long time Mr. Holman had interested himself in promoting the idea of a. national flag for Can- ada and two years ago when a parliamentary iaommittee was ap- pointed to choose a flag Mr. Hol- man submltted a design which re- ceived the support of some mem- bers "of the committee. However. no final decision was taken by Parliament on the matter.
