TORONTO. March 3 - (OP) - A 3750 atomic shelter claimed to give protection directly under a bursting bomb has been designed by the Vancouver firm of Eccles- Rand Ltd.

It contains two features in designers say give it an edge over similar shelters. They are I new type of cement said to ward off the effects of radiation and a vial of purple liquid that turns color- less in the presence of dangerous

rays.

The shelter. looking like a mole- hlil of cement. has a roof of the special concrete 32 inches thlck. Allan A. Eccles. a member of the Vancouver firm. explained in an interview here today how It works.

"You put the shelter in your baclwnrd where a house won't fall on it. When you hear an air- raid warning. you dash into it and stay put. If an atomic bomb fails. a geiger tube in the backyard sends warnings through connect- ions into the shelter and you know it's not safe to come out. You also have the liquid vial de- vice as a second measurement."

If the owner's house collapsed. he can continue living in the shelter even after radiation dan- ger cnds. It will hold four per- sons.

Sympathy is extended to Mr. John 0'1-Ialleron of Cape Traverse in the loss they met last week when the roof of their home caught fire from an overheated stove pipe. At the time of the fire two of the children were in bed with influenza. With the help of their neighbours the fire was put out and the roof temporarily re- paired.
