Ow Der.—That «* Rafus” was so delighted with Tonalt’s eartoon upon the Leader and other members of the Government, under which he holds oifice, that he immediately ordered a dozen photographs for general distribution ; that he was exhibiting it for the merriment of his pupils in the Normal School, thereby bringing Mr. Hensley into coutempt; that Rufus might safely be dis- missed from office without loss to the party which he seeks to ridicule and destroy, and without detriment to the cause of education ; that he is a humbag, and a treacherous cus- tomer to beot and that he will soon be played out. Few tears will he shed for him.

His Worship stated, that it had beea verbally represented to him by Mr. Douse that the resi- dent householders around Rochferd Square in- tend to enclose the same; and that gentleman had, at the same time, expressed a bope, on the part of bimeeclf and others having an immediate interest in the matter, that the Ceuncil would amake them a grant in aid of the projected im

Lighting the Streets.

The Board baving taken into eansideration that the Contract for lighting the Streets with Gas will expire on the jat day of June next, it was

The City Supply of Pure Water Question:

The foilowing Letter, received by His Honor the Recorder, in anewer to one addreased by him, atthe request of His Worship the Mayer, to Mr. Woodward, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and requesting the favor of any information which he (Mr. Wvodward) could afford concerning the operation of boring for water, was, at Lis Worship’s request, read to the Board.

“ The water raised by boring. or rather driving ® pipe, hae been done by e-veral persons in the country near the city,in sand and joam, and have obtained water at different depths, say from 10 to 20 feet. In Fredericton they tiave sunk a greot many, without any failuce — the svil is all eand. The pipe is about f4 inches in diameter, costs $4 per foot, and a pump $14.

“ The person lives above Fredericton who has a patent for the invention, who goes round the country when he has, orders. I will send your queries to him, and he wi, of eourse, give all the information.
