Just how accurate is the Lie in-tector in solving numerous baf- fling mysteries?

Critics of the gadget claim it is nothing more than an electrified niiila board. Is it?

On the other hand. its advocates say its accuracy ranges from 80 to fill per cent.

The confirmed liar is able to heat the machine by skillful con- trol of his emotions. But strange to say such cases are rare.

There are two basic types of ii: detectors - the polygraph and the piithometer.

Both of these report changes in blood pressure. pulse. and respira- lion. The theory is that when you tell a lie the emotion quickens so that his blood pressure shoots up. his pulse beats more rapidly. and his breaths come quicker.

Results of lle detector tests are not admitted as evidence in the crimlllll courts of the U nitcd States. The co-called "truth scrum" falls into the same cate- gory. Nevertheless. police officials frequently use both'in attempting to track down criminals.

They work on the assumption that if they can show up s sus- pect in a lie detector test. they are quite likely to obtain a con- fession.

MRS. COLIN D. PIAIIR

The death occurred at the P.

E. I. Hospital on April 7. 1955. of Mrs. Colin D. Fraser in her hard year. The deceased was the daughter of the late William T. Scott and Annie Macl.ean. She was born at Clyde River in the year 1873 where she resided until 1925 when she and her husband said their farm and moved to Charlotte- town. During the last year she resided with her daughter. Mrs. Eric Coles. at North Milton.

Although Mrs. Fraser was in failing health for several years. she took a keen interest in every- thing relating io church and com- munity until a week before her death when she entered the hos- pital. For many years she was a most faithful member of the Clyde River Baptist Church where she taught a glrls' Sunday School class. Later she united with the Charlottetown Baptist Church.

Besides a host of friends. she leaves to mourn an only daugh- ter, Carolyne (Mrs. Eric Coles). Her husband predeceased her in 1036.

The funeral was held from the MacLean Funeral Home on Satur- day. Aprll 0. with a short service conducted by Rev. H. L. Milton and Rev. A. E. Piercey. The re- mains were then conveyed to the Clyde River Baptist Church for service conducted by Rev. Owen Cochran assisted by Rev. Donald Nicholson and Rev. A. E. Pier- cey. The hymns sung were "The Twenty-third Psalm" and "For- ever with the Lord." Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

The pail bearers were: Frank Gillespie. John Hearts. John Moore. Robert Matheson. John Murray and Allan MacLean.

There were many floral tributes and cards of sympathy.

OTTAWA (CF)-The air force. which has grown bigger than the army for the first time since 1940. has ordered about 81,400,000 worth of Chipmunk training planes from dc I-Iavilland Aircraft Company at Toronto.
