Few, we think, will. in this, agree with the Put- riot; while many will, we venture to say, be glad to know that in doing justice to Mr. Pope, the Government has advanced Mr. Robins to a better position. .

Last evening Victoria Division, Ne. 4, of this City, presented an interesting scene ou the ovcasion of an official visit from the P. M. W. Chaplain, Rev. G. 0. Huestis; of Nova Scotia. The address of the reverend gentlemen was full of interest and cheer. In the year 1845 he identified kimself with the Sons of Temperance, and sinee that time has enjoyed unbro.en counection with the Order, Our friends have every reason for encourage- ment. ‘Temperance effert in the past has not been in vain. Short and interesting addresses followed from Brothers J. B, Cooper, Jehu bowers, J. W. Wadman, W. F. Morris, J. J. Chappelle and WV. W. Beer, and « very pleasant Divisional Meeting was brought to a close, the brethren singing the ode of the Oréer.

The 24th at Upton Park.
Four races took place at Upton Park—' a three minute, a four year old, a gentie- man’s driving, and a match—tweo of which were pronounced to be the liveliest and mest interesting races ever witnessed in the Province. The day was all that could ve desired, the track was as good as could be expected, aud were it fer the riotous preceedings of a yang of disorderly ruffians who entered the Park shortly after the races commenced, we would have no hesitation in saying that the day was the most enjoyable ever spent at Upton. The Manager of the Park has, we learn, the names of the greater number of those olack guards. He will lose no time in prose- cuting them, and we hope that the Magis- trate will not fail to make an example of these whese villainous conduct dreve se many respectable people from Upton Park yesterday.
The Judges appointed were Messrs. A. N. Large, Archibald Holmes and Samuel Stumbles.

Lirst Heat,—Att went off in a bunch, Bunting led at the turn hy Hlepeweli and Shylock. Zuiu, Mes- senger and Lady Bagaell, being in the rear, Beil trotted handsomely to the half mile, when she broke badly, fell to the rear aud continued so to the finish. Hepevill, who assumed first place, showed good speed. Shylock was at bis wheel, and did not fail to give hiin the go by at the three quaiter. He dashed down the homestretch in a style which was adimired byall,follewed by Zulu, Hopevill, at some length, Megsenger, Lady Bagneli and Bell in the rear.
Seeond Heat—Siylock led, but jibed and caught a boot at the turn and acted badly until the quarter. fady Bagneli went to the front at the quarter, followed by Zulu. They trotted splendidly and passed the haif-mile pole in the following erder: Lady Bagnell, Zulu, Shylock, Hopevill, Messenger, and Bell. At the three quarter Shyleck took secoud position and pushed for first. Lady Bagnell trotted splendidly to the finish, makiug remarkably good time, Shylock ending secoud, Zuin taird, Hepevill fourth. They trotted beautifully, On the home stretch Hopewell, however, went off his feet, and Shylock teok the second position, Hopevill third, Zula fourth, Messenger fifth, aud Bellin the rear, and kept so until the finish, Belland Messenger were disorderly the whole heat.
Fourth Heat— Messenger and Bell were withdrawd. ‘The first owing to an accident and the second to disorderly conduct. At the start, Lady Baguall lead, with Hopevill at her wheel, trotting surprisingly. Zalu took third and Shylock acting badly in the rear, He came down handsomely at the quarter, and gave Zulu the go by. All tratted splen- didly over the course -Lady Bagnall showing splended speed, was far ahead at the three- quarter. Here, Shylock collared Hopevill. On the home-stretch he attempted te pass her but Hopevill galloped and led by a length. Shylock came up again and both trotted down the homestretch handsomely and finished almost neck and neck--Lady Bagnall being first, Hopevill got secon L Shyteck third, and Zatu fourth,
Lady Baguell was awarded first prize, Shy- lock second, and Eopevill third.

Little Mack came down first and followed St. Julian closely over the course, both showing remarkable speed for four year olds. Peerless acted badly and finished far in the rear, St, Julian first and Mack second.
Secontl dfeet—St Julian led the whole course, hotly pursned by Little Mack, who at times came close to her wheel, but although hard tried, was never able to geéd closer. Peerless acted as in first heat, and ended a good distance in the rear, ‘
St. Julian was awarded first prize, Little Mack second, and Peeriess third.

Second Heat Lady Mack ied, clezely fol- lowed by Lady Jeff and Lady Kate. They trotted splendidly ever the course. At the quarter Lady deff collard Liady Mack, bat the latter’s driver applied the whip, aud Mack rushed to the fore aud led by a length until the finish, Jeff second, Kate third, and Forest King far in the rear cantertug.
Tiird Heat —Lady Mack led with Kate and Jeif in the rear. The latter took first pesition at the quarter, but was passed by Mack at the three quarter. She was here passed by Jeti who dashed down the homestretch with Mack at her wheel. About thirty yards from the finish Jeff pulled in front of Mack. The latter's driver claimed a foul and the judges pronounced the heat dead.
