Snags. In conversation with the SMU broadcast crew we were told that the race for playoff spot this year . will be intense. They (as “usual) say their own team .will finish first but thought the next three places would be very close. We believe we will be right in there, one loss to SMU does not a season make. Next weekend the team is off for games at Dalhousie and Acadia. Next home game will be at the Forum on Sunday the 7th with UNB. We have seen both Acadia and Dal— housie and are optimistic _ about our chances with them. On Friday night in Anti- gonish our Basketball Pan— thers got off to a good start, in league play, when they outscored old rival St. F.X. by an 80-71.score after leading 35—32 at the.ha1f. Top scorer for us good guys was Tom Hibbert with 23. Art Laffin was close behind with 20 and Bronx Feighery and Tom Kappos chipped in with 14 and 12 respectively. We did not ‘have a good game on Saturday

at Dalhousie and succumbed 104-87. After 5 minutes play we were trailing 12—25 and had to fight uphill there— after. Late in the game,high scor er Art Laffin (25 points) was injured, when we had closed the gap to 6 points and had to leave the game. We lost our momentum and fell behind to lose by 17. Kevin Feighry had 14/ points while Tom Hibbert had 20 and Tom Kappos had 17 with 15 rebounds.

Gary Heald and this year's edition of the Basketball Panthers have raised inter- est in this sport to a hei~ ght it has ne ver attained in U.P.E.I. history. Next
