ROAD OPEN- The Charlotte- tnwn-Montsgue highway is again open to motor traffic. Government snow plows working Friday and Saturday on the ill-mile stretch of pavement arrived at Montague late Friday night. ‘flu road had been blocked by snow since early in the winter. Cars from Montague, Car- digan and Georgetown visited the city Saturday.

SOUS! PARTY - The lamest crowd ever to attend the regular Saturday night house parties at the local YMCA. packed the building and spent a very enjoy- able evening Saturday. Sailors. soldiers and airman were present and joined in the dancing, sports and other amusements which were included on r bang-up program. A feature attraction was the tap dancing display put on by soldier Eddie Bourgeois of Beach Grove. Refreshments were served by the Ladies Saturday night committee.

Special Services iit Salvation Army

Special services were conducted in the Salvation Army Hall yesterday by Major E. Green, Divisional Com- mander of the Salvation Army for N-BwP-E-L. who arrived in the city Saturday uisht by Diane from St. John. He was accompanied bv Mrs. Green who assisted at the services yesterday.

The morning service, which w largely attended. was conducted by Mrs. Green. wing Sunday School in the afternoon unimpress- lve service. attended by upwards of 90 poo-pie, was held in the Provincial Infirmary. This was conducted by Major Green.

At seven o'clock in the evening one of the largest crowds this winter attended worship period conducted by M11101‘ and Mrs. Green.

Following this about 550 attended the Student's Christian Movement B0118 service held in the Hall. Capt. W. Mercer led the sing song and a short address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Stewart of the African Metho- dist Episcopal Church, Halifax. who is visiting Charlottetown. Dr. Stew- art ls head of group of Jubilee singers in Halifax which has won fame across Ca a.

Children's Concert At St. Peter's liail

A particularly creditable and un- usually enjoyable children's concert and play were produced in St. Pet- er's Hall last Friday evening by the Junior W. A. Miss Nancy Hyndman, a specially costumed "Announcer," introduced all of the numbers with gay couplets. Three opening choru- ses were sung: "Our wuntry," “Jerry" and "The Little Red l-Ien," followed by a song by Dolly Chand- ler and recltationa by Margo Clark I-Ieien McLean, Florence Peake and, Janet Clarke.

The death of Mrs. J. J. Hughes, widow of the late Senator J. J. Hughes. which occurred at her home in Souris yesterday, will be‘ learned with regret by her many friends throughout the Province.

"Today we pay tribute to the val- or and sacrifice of two young men of our church who made the su- preme sacrifice in the cause for lib- erty, and in doing so we commem- orate their spirit and memory: Sgt. Pilot Allison Boyce MacKie. Observer Ernest Ashton Tredenlck.

“Sgt. Pilot MacKie, Southport, was well known in the city and by the people of Trinity Church.

"Sgt. Observer Tzedenick was a native of West Devon. The last few years he lived in our city and attended College md Trinity Church.

“Both of these young men were esteemed for their character and outlook on life. They heard the call of’ their country and fully realizing the dangers of war; but also realis- ing the ideals at stake and motl- vatcd by high sense of duty, they enlisted. in due time. they proceed- ed overseas and were soon engaged against the enemy.

"Sgt. Observer ‘rredenick was re- ported missing in October 194i and later declared killed in action.

“Sgt, Pilot MacKie was killed in action November 194i. He is bur- led in Stirllngshire, Scotland. "These are the first casualties from this Church. We pay tribute to their bravery and sacrifice and commend their loved ones to Him. whose love and peace are assured. May we be worthy of their devo- tion and sacrifice. "Greater love hath no man than this. that a man lay down his life for his frlendaf‘.
