0n Trans-Canada lecture Tour

- An interesting visitor to the city and Province is Mr. Phillip 2:. Al-' len of North Battleford. Sask. Mr. Allen is on a trans-Canada lecture -tour visiting schools. clubs. and interested groups relating about -his trip through the Canadian and American North West, over the original Trails of '98.

.-Mr. Allen left Vancouver in November. 1948 and has spoken in many Canadian towns and cities anroute here. He hopes to return here in the fall to deliver lectures and to give at first hand informa- tion about the north country and history's greatest gold rush.

Mr. Allen is in the process of wcornpiling a volume. "One Came Late"-in the hope of bringing something about Canada. by a Canadian, and for Canadians of these distant places. His trip which covered the entire North- west Territories. Arctic Ocean. -Yukon, Alaska. and British coi- umibia. took over 6,000 miles of trail. It was covered by aircraft. dog team, Macxenzie riverboat. canoe. on foot. Yukon sternwheel steamboat, railway. highway and steamer. His lectures are illust- rated with a complete pictorial account of his journeys.

DIE!) IN LYNN, MASS.-Mr. Hooper Essery. City. Saturday re- ceived the sad news of the death of his brother. Mr. Roy Esssry in Lynn. Mass. The late Mr. Essery was an employee of the General Electric company and was ill only a short time before his demise. A veteran of the First Great War, he was born in Charlottetown. the son of the late Thomas EssPry and Mary Hooper. He is survived by his wife, the former Ethel Mahar of this City. and three sons and one daughter. In addition to his brother Hooper he also leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs Charles Beer city. and Mrs. Mabel M. Anderson. Halifax.

CITY POLICE COURT - At the Stlpendiary Magistrates Court on Friday. a man charged with being drunk and incapable was sentenced to 20 days in jail and a drunk and disorderly was fined :20 and costs or M days in jail. A remanded case of theft under s25 was further re- manded until July 3rd.. and the remanded case oi a man charged with gross indecency was further remanded until July 7th. A sum- mary ejectment. case was heard and adjourned until the 7th.

CADETS LEAVE FOR CAMP- Aboui 45 cadets of Queen Square and West Kent -School cadet cor-ps will leave this morning for ten days summer camp at Alder- Shot. Nova Scotia. After completion of a year's internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Montreal, Dr. Stewart will enter upon his duties as a Mediral Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force. The weather man co-operated very well. and a good crowd was on hand to enjoy the afternoon. Dr. ltaithiby congratulated the Guern- sey Association on its splendid organization, and spoke on the need in all types of cattle of classification. He told those pres- ent that they must watch closely for the best days for exhibiting their individual Guernseys. as some days an animal will not look at its best. Dr. Rsithby stated that it

The afternoon was opened by Mr. William Proud who welcomed the guests and then turned the proceedings over to the master of ceremonies. Mr. Guy Rodd. Others who spoke a few words were Mr. Eric Hurry. Mr. Lou Roper, Senior Livestock Fieldman of Department of Agriculture, Mr. Stewart Wright. Provincial Fieldman. Mr. Harold Laird. originator of Guernsey Breeder's Association. and Mr. Dick Levitt of Fredericton.

Following the speeches Mr. I-furry's herd was classified by Prof. Raithlry. and the races for young and old were carried out. An ex- cellent supper was served, rounding out a most successful afternoon.

Large Audiences iiear Evangelist In Opening Addresses

The well known evangelist Rev. Charles B. Templeton, opened his month's stay on Prince Edward Island yesterday with three serv- ices. meeting with an unprecedent- ed welcome.

At his two services in Trinity United church in Charlottetown he spoke to capacity congregations. In the Yeo theatre in Montague there was standing room only for his afternoon service. and about two hundred were turned away. Among those who were not able to get in were a. number of clergyman from churches of various denomin- ations.

Members of each of Rev. Templa- ton's congregations yesterday com- mented very highly on his sin- cerity and the presentation of his message.

At the morning service he chose as his subject "Life can be beaut- iful . . . If", and stressed the need of personal religion. ”Christ- ianlty is a personal religion," he said" and one is a Christian be- cause of what one does. not what one does not do."

In the afternoon service at Montague Mr. Templeton spoke on "Absalom," taking the old story and drawing modem applications from it.-The Charlottetown male choir was on and for the service and song two ctions.
