DELIGHTFUL SOCIAL GATH- ERING - A very enjoyable event took place at York Point. Wednes- day evening, in the form of a happy reunion when Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Macinnis kindly placed their beautiful summer home at the dis- posal of their friends which in- cluded the entire degree staff of Alpha Rebekah lodge, No. 10, who so excellently conferred the Be- bekan Degree in the Prince of Wales auditorium during the Re- bekah Assembly sessions held here during August. In the afternoon a number of the party enjoyed a dip in the river's briny, after which ‘a delicious luncheon was served by the hostess. In (the early evening many carloads oi merry-makers were added to the number and ev- erybody gathered on the beach where a large bonfire was kindled and many boilers of luscimis corn were cooked and eagerly consumed. Singing and speeches added very much to the pleasure of the cve- ning. As the evening drew ona very hearty votc or thanks was tender- ed to Mir. and Mrs. Ivan Macfnnis for their kind hospitality; also to the Degree Master Mr. Angus Mc- Eachern; Degree Mistress, Mrs. Jean Crockett, and Degroa Pianist Mrs. Angus MacEachei-n, promoters of the evening's fun. Much merri- ment followed in the form of gen- eral hilarity of which bouncing, etc. played no small part. As the per- fect evenng drew all too soon to a close, each and every member, as they wended their war back to the city was jubilant in their praise of the delightful evening's entertain- ment.

Something of the social and religious back- ground of the age of Christ was given, and the significance of the parables was graphically indicated.

With reverence the audience followed the lecturer through the localities in which Christ preached and taught groups and multitudes, —the Jordan Valley and River, the Sea. of Galilee, and the little towns, Galilee, Mount Hermon, and other places known to every student of Bible history. But it was in Jerus- alem and its environs that the lec- turer lingered longest, as there took place those" incidents, sacred to Christiana everywhere. The Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, and Golgotha. were shown as they appear at the pres- ent time. Models of the buildings which have occupied the Temple Area through the ages gave the history of Palestine in brief. Es- pecially impressive was the mosque of Omar, the building now occupy- ing the area, screened in marvel- lous detail, and revealing the grandeur of oriental architecture and art.

The sacred music which accom- panied mnny of the sccns and actions was provided by the photo- phone, and was the contributions of great artists.

FIND TRAMPING JOLLY HOLIDAY

EDMONTON, Sept 4-’I‘wo youth- ful shopgirls from Trail, B. 0., ar- rived in this city recently from a long tramp. The Caribou, with its rugged beauty lured them first and they spent several WPeks trek- king from Trail to Kamloops, Wil- liams Lake to Quesnel, Batkcr- ville to Bear Lake and back again to Prince George.

At Prince George the hclidayers took a. train to Jasper, whence they came to Edmonton. Their names are Miss Midgley and Miss Nora Smith.

Twenty miles a. day was the min- imum march for these adventurers who never asked for a life a1- though they got plenty. Auto camps at nightfall were their destination and they only mlacalculated twice. “It was fun sleeping under the stars on those two occasions," they told a reporter.

Breeches and light weight jerseys were their wearing apparel and their ruck sacks were imported for "W" ifillmfiy from Norway. Per- haps the proof of the succe:s of this first trip lies in the fact that they are alreadycontemplatlng a. second.

The only fellow travellers they met on their journey were bravo knights of the road irampinz up the Caribco in search of gold. "Light-hearted and optimistic they were. too," one of them remarke .
