; cil Meeting last Sunday Evening. The last hour of the meeting was devoted to a roundtable discussion on the allegations that have been levelled against Arsenault for her handling of the Student Union response to the reported sexual assault on campus.

Councillors questioned Arsenault about allegations that she had information about the alleged assault that she had not disclosed. In response, Arsenault replied that she had disclosed all information that she felt she could. Council- lors went on to question her about the charges made against her by CIMN Station Manager Todd King in last week’s X- Press. Arsenault answered some of King’s charges, claiming some to be simply untrue. Some councillors expressed their disappointment that King had not approached her personally, instead choosing to apparently obtain all of his information secondhand (despite the ‘‘insider’s view’’ label assigned to it in this publication), but few seemed entirely satisfied with the number of his charges she had answered (inciden- tally, King, a Student Union, employee often has his bi- weekly paycheques signed by Arsenault).

As the 9:30 meeting deadline approached, Council, at the suggestion of the acting Speaker, agreed to hold an unsched- uled meeting next Sunday evening (at the Barn at 7:00 PM) both to finish questioning Arsenault and to better respond to the University Administration’s new proposal for a task force to examine the issue of sexual violence against women oncampus.

On Monday, reports in the media began to emerge to the effect that Arsenault intends to resign, though at that time Arsenault herself had not confirmed this nor had the execu- tive been formally informed. It is not certain at this writing as to when Arsenault intends to issue an official statement concerning her possible resignation if she does, nor is it clear how the Student Council Executive would respond to

it. Her immediate (but temporary) successor would be the Vice President External until a suitable replacement can be arranged. i

Let’s start with the now infamous Canada Clause. This clause entrenches a number of fundamental values and rights. Included in this clause are racial and ethnic equality gender equality, provincial equality, respect for indiv idual and collective rights and freedoms of all people, and devel- opment of official language minority communities.
