D. 1830, is hereby specified and fixed at the rate of Seven-eighths of one percent. on every dollar of the value of Real E3tate, as assessed by the Assessors of the said City of Charlottetown iu the General Assessment Book and Valuation Roll ofall Real Estate and Personsl Property liable to taxation in said City, and of all persons ligbie to pay Poli Tax therein, made and dnly returned by them on the Fifth day os April, 1889, and as such General Assessment Book and Valu- ation Roll is added to, revised and corrected bv their subsequent similar return, made by them on the 2!st davof March. (Halifax Herald, May 1st.) The closing exercises of 1889-9) session of the Pine Hill Theological College took place at St. Matthew’s Church last evening.

Stewart, from Pictou county ; Revs. Forbes, Faulkner, McCurdy, Dr. Pattersen, McLean, Scott, Carson, Dr. McLeod, Rev. J. K. Munroe, of Antigonish ; E, D. Miller, of Lunen- burg; Thos. Sedgewick, Tatamagouche ; Dr. McGregor, of Amberst; Rev. James Sinclair, J. McGillivray, EH. Smith, E. Grant, J. H. Chase, James McLean, and E Ross, of Colchester county; Rev. D. Me- Donald, of Cape Breton.
Rev. Dr. Burns presided. The devotiona! exercises were conducted by Revs. Joseph McLean aud A. Faulkner.
The report read by the Rev. Dr. Currie, Secretary of the Senate, showed that 31 students had been in attendance, 17 of whom were juniors: The list of gradu- ates for the present year is as follows :—-

These received their diplomas in due form. The Rev. John-Calder, B. A., and Mr. John A. Matheson, B. A., having pass- ed a highly creditable examination received the degree of B. D. The report’ went on to say that the increase of students had rendered an enlargement of the college building necessary, and that this work would probably be commenced immediate- ly. The bursary fund has now a capital sum of $10,000; having been increased by a legacy of $1,000 lately reported. Re- ference was made to the munificent bequest of the late Mr. P. Ross, by which it is expected that the funds of the college shali at some future time be greatly increased, and the study of elocution and sacred music especially encouraged. In this connection reference was made to special benefit received by some of the students from the instruction of Miss Mc- Garry, whose services in the absence of an instructor provided by the senate, had been engaged by the students themselves. The report breathed throughout a hopeful tone, and indicated an undimininished in- terest in this part of the varied and ex- tended work of the Presbyterian church. After the report and conferring of the de- grees, one of which was the conferring of the degree of doctor of divinity on the Rev. Jchn Morton, Trinidad, the valedic- tory was delivered by Mr. Ambrose Me- Leod, of P. E. 1., and replied to by Rey. Allan Simpson. The Rev. L. McNeill, of St. John, followed, reading an admirable paper on the ** Expectation 6f the Min- istry.” After singing a hymv, Kev. R. Laing pronounced the benediction.
No More Bars. ON AND AFTER MAY IsT LIQUORS MUST NOT BE SOLD OVER BARS IN BOSTON.
A Boston despatch reports that after May Ist, the sale of mtoxicating liquors over bars must be stopped in Boston. This order had been expected for some time, but it was hoped, not only by the police commissioners but also by the saloon keepers, that the law tequiring liquurs to be sold with feod would be repealed, but it was not. A_ biil for repeal of the law was rejected in the Senate a few days ago by two votes, and with the idea probably that there was no further hope of a modification, the police com- missioners have given notico to saloon keepers to remove their bars within twenty days. The enforcement of the law will work a serious injury to almost every saloon keeper in the city. The hotels can more readily adopt themselves tu the new con- dition than the saloons, having more rooin to set tables. Hotel men and saloon keepers naturally protest, and the former are of the opinion that the enforcement, of the new iaw will work injury to the hotel business.

The Halifax Herald reports that the butchers of that city met recently at the Lyceum to consider the state of of their business in view of the rapid increasing price of beef. <A number of calculations were made and fully discussed with a view to clearly understanding the true position of their business, and it was clearly demon- strated that at the present selling prices, the first cost cannot be made out of the business. A number of prices were sub- mitted and discussed, and it was finally re- solved to raise the price of prime joints to the following figures: Steak, 15 cents, roast; 17 cents for best cuts. These figures to stand only as circumstances will from time to time permit. It was decided that an actual detailed statement will be publish- edin the press. From ail of which it ap- pears that the butchers of Halifax have entered into a combine.

The Superintendent becomes sarcastic to- wards the close of his communication. Although probably well enongh qualified to rehash every Spring the ordinary Time Table, I don’t think that even his most enthusiastic admirers would consider him so far removed from the common genius as to be above taking a little more assistance than his ordinary staff afford.
