LONDON, May 3- professionals today extoresed criti- cian because Henry Cotton, Brit- ish Open golf champion, failed to compote in the £1,000 ($5,000) Dunlop-Southport tournament after filing an entry.

He gave his reasons that he did not approve a. 36-hole qualifying round, he does not like short courses, the ground is too hard and alwway, he is busy.

Many pros sgmsors lost money on tournamen in which Cotton failed to compete and would in the future refuse to put up good purses unless they were sure of the galleries he would draw.
