Mr. Harrington, M. P., in a speech re- cently charged the police with intimidating people for the parpose of preventing them jeining the National League. and snbserib- ing to the testimonial to Mr Parnell. Many men have been iying in prison for weeks, and some for a year, without being bronght to trial before their friends, the public, and the press. They were to be tried by hele and corner enquiries. Tieir friends were unable to offer evidence to extricate them. One informer was sufficient for the Government no mat- ter how many persons could prove the innocence of the accused. The ac- cused was never brought face to face with the informer He was even daily tempted with offers of freedom and money or bribes vf whiskey to induce him to swear away the liberties of his fellow-men. (Cries of “Shame, shame.”) Harrington said he could prove that such overtures had been made to several men in Galway jail by de- tectives who tried to induce them to swear away the liberties of men not in custody. It was necessary to resist the efforts which were being made to crush Irish liberty and public opinion.

Delany's testimony as to Kelly’s share in the Phoenix Park murders will strengthen the case of the prosecution, but will not insure a conviction, since it was not a defi- ciency of evidence which caused the previ- ous failures of justice. The confessions of Delany and Catlery praciically complete the account of the Phoenix Park murders, and their truthfulness is admitted. It is con- sidered that Parnell’s presidency of a seditious League, including American branches, for which he is responsible, but which he cannot control, smay yet bring him into trouble.
