EDMUNDSTON. N.B. (CP) — The murder trial of John Jacob Vollmann, Jr, of Madawaska, Me., charged in the knife—slaying of 16-year-old Gaetane Bouchard

of Edmundston East, enters its ninth day here today with 30 of an expected 48 crown wit- nesses yet to be heard.

Vollmann, native of Elizabeth, N.J., and former resident of Milfond, Mass, was arrested May 14 by State detective Otis Labree of Houlton after the body of the girl was found in a nearby gravel pit by her father and a younger brother.

Canadians Remember War Dead At Services

Canadians remembered their war dead Tuesday as with heads bowed they observed two minutes of silence at the 11th hour.

In many centres, wreath-plac-

with religious services and par- ades by the armed forces and veterans units.

Prime Minister Diefenlbaker attended Armistice day services at Verdun, France, a First World War battlefield. An RCAF guard of honor and a pipe band took part.

LEGION CEREMONY

At Vimy Ridge. in France, members of the Canadian Legion observed Remembrance Day in ceremonies at th e Canadian memorial.

Most of the overseas service- men observed Remembrance Day Sunday when parades and other ceremonies were held at army bases in Germany and air force bases in France and England.

At home, parades and services were also held by many organiz- ations Sunday while Tuesday was a working day for many.

At the National War Memorial in Ottawa, a silent crowd of about 10,000 gathered under cold, over- cast skies to watch the placing of wreaths at the base of the mem- orial.

Bank Teller Found In ‘ ' $250,000 Theft Case

DENVER, Colo. (AP) —— A pleasant-looking young Canadian with a taste for champagne and sports cars spoke freely with police Tuesday after his arrest in connection with the theft of $260,000 from the Imperial Bank of Canada at Ottawa.

Boyne L. Johnston, 25-year-old bank teller, was quoted by detec- tive chief James E. Childers as saying he “had thought about it many times and decided I would
