FIRE AT SES.

Heroic Struggle with the Flames.

New York, Aug. 14 —The White Star liner Cymric, which came up to her dock in this city at an early hour today and 'ynded her 373 passengers, had a terrible experience while crossing the Atlantic. At noon on Sumday, Augus 5, when the big vessel was 19 hours out from Queens- town, fire was discovered in the cargo in in the forward hold, and it raged until midnight on Monday, whenit was gotten under control,

The loss on the cargo was so heavy that Ageot Jobo Lee, of the White Star line, notified the consignees of the cargo that they would be expected to pay their pro- rata share of the loss.

Ceptain H. %t. G. Lindsay, of the Cymiric, to-night told the experience of tbe men on the vesse! in ggh ing the fire. In addition to the ordinary danger of euch work, the fire could nat be

located, and deadly chlorine gas, which

poured outof the hatches, made it im - | possible for the mento remain long at
