lings oflawful money ofthe said Island per head for all Swine so seized and taken up; and the proceeds of such sale as aforesaid, or the sum so to be paid: by such owner or owners shall be retained by such Hog Reeve or Ilog Reeves for his or their own use6 and beneﬁt.

III. Any Person so appointed Hog Reeve within the said Town and Royalty, and who shall refuse or neglect to perform the duties of his said ofﬁce by not taking up all Swine so found going at large as afore- said within the said Town or Royalty, or in not dis- )osing ofthe same in manner hereinbefore prescribed, shall forfeit and pay, for every such refusal or neglect, the sum of Twenty Shillings, to be recovered before any one or more of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for Prince County, together with the costs of suit and to be levied in default of payment by \Var- rant ot Distress on the goods and chattels of such Hog Reeve; one half of the said ﬁne to be paid into the Treasury ofthis Island for the use of Her Majes- ty’s Government, and the other moiety to the person who shall prosecute such Hog Reeve : Provided always that no person appointed Hog Reeve, as aforesaid, shall be liable to serve as such more than once in every three years.

IV. All persons in any way or manner obstructing any such Hog Reeve or Hug Reeves in the execu- tion of his or their duty, shall forfeit and pay a fine not exceeding Two Pounds, and not less than Five Shillings; such ﬁne to be recovered on the oath of any such Hog Reeve, or one or more credible th- ness or witnesses, and in manner last aforesaid; and in the event of the oti'ender or offenders not having goods or chattels whereon to levy the said ﬁne, then the said Justice of the Peace is hereby authorized and empowered to commit the said offender or offen- ders to the Jail ofthe County for a period not exceed- ing ten days.

V. This Act shall continue and be in force for the period often years from the passing hereof, and from thence to the end of the then next session of the General Assembly and no longer.

CAP. XXI.

An Act relating to the Ofﬁce of Solicitor General ofthis Island.

[Passed May 11, 1866.]

E it enacted by the Lieutenant Governor, Coun- cil and Assembly, as follows :

I. From and after the passing of this Act there shall be allowed and paid u‘nto the Solicitor General of this Island for the time being, as and for the salary of that oflice, the sum of Two Hundred Pounds, oflawful current money of this Island, per annum, instead ot One Hundred Pounds, as prescrib- ed in and by the Second Section of the Act made and passed in the Sixteenth year ofthe Reign of her present Majesty Queen Victoria, chapter Three, the same to be in lieu of all fees of oliice, charges, allowances and emoluments, paid or payable by the Government of this Island to the Solicitor General, on account of Crown Prosecutions, or for opinions, or for any other miscellaneous services performed

by him for the Government in his otlicial capacity,

and such salary shall be paid quarterly, as and in manner provided by the Fourth Section ofthe said recited Act.

II. The Second Section of the said recited Act of the Sixteenth Victoria, chapter Three, shall be, and the same is hereby repealed.

CAP. XXII.

An Act further to amend the Act for the establislr ment of a Bank of Savings in Prince Edward Island.

\ HEREAS it is expedient to enlarge the pro- ’ visions ofthe Act of the Twenty-seventh year ofthe Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled “ An Act for the establishment of a Bank for Savings in Prince Edward Island.”

I. Be it enacted by the Lieutenant Governor, Council and Assembly, That the aggregate amount of Deposits, authorized to be made under and by virtue ofthe said recited Act of the Twenty-seventh Victoria, chapter Four, shall be and the same is hereby extended from the sum of Ten Thousand Pounds to the sum ofTwenty Thousand Pounds cur- rency; and that the amount of Deposits which any individual Depositor shall and may have and hold, bearing Interest in the Funds ofthe said Bank, shall be and the same is hereby increased from the sum of Seventy—ﬁve Pounds to the sum of One Hundred Pounds currency, anything in the said recited Act to the contrary notwithstanding.

II. This Act shall come iiito operation immediately after the passing thereof.

CAP. XXIII.

An Act to exempt PrOperty belonging to Her Majesty or to the Government ofthis Island from Duties

or Assessment. " [Passed May 11, 1866.]

E it enacted by the Lieutenant Governor, Coun- cil and Assembly, as follows :

I. From and after the passing ofthis Act all lands, tenements and hereditaments, goods, chattels and effects, belonging to Her Majesty, her heirs or suc- cessors, or to the Government of this Island, shall be exempt from all rates, duties, imposts and assess- ments whatsoever, whether the same be imposed on such real and personal estate, as aforesaid, by any Statute ofthis Island, or by any By-law ofany Cm». porate body or otherwise howsoever.

II. \thn any goods or chattels shall have been taken possession of, or distrained for non-payment of rates, duties, imposts or assessments, by any ()IIICBI‘ belonging to the Customs, Impost or Excise Ollice, or by any Collector, Bailiff or other Ollicer in the employ of the Government or belonging to any Corporation duly improvised to levy rates or assess- ments, the same shall be delivered up to the person entitled to receive them, upon his making allidavit that the same are really and bonaﬁde the property of Her Majesty, her heirs or successors, or the property ofthe Government ofthis Island.
