Half of Russia is ordered to commence mobilization-

Six thousand fresh troops from Servia, occupied a fort in Rainor, near Vischard and Prekopoli.

Six thousand Turks from Podzoaitza, compelled the Montenegrin corps to retreat to their own territory, and are now mareh- ing to the relief of Scularie and Anterain. Germany is said to be a firm ally of Rus- sia in the extinction of Turkey as a Euro- pean power.

There is considerable excitement in Eng- land. The Queen handed the Government her views on the Eastern Question, and will open Parliament in person.

The Pall Mall Gazette says the Cabinet will come to a wise conclusion after reading the history of the last ten years’ situation in Europe that a rich nation must show a

Beccar Rossep. — Daniel McDonald, who, a short time ago, was arrested for be- ing drunk and menpel, who was known to be a beggar, and who, when searched, was found to have on his person $150 was, to-day, arraigned before the Stipendiary Magistrate for vagrancy, and was fined $3 or 14 days. He said he had been robbed of the money he had begged, and had not en- ough to pay his fine. He was committed to

jail for 14 days.

Bicycle Race for the Fifty-Mile Championship of the World.

Advices from London, Eng., state that the great bicycle race for £100 and the championship of the world, between John Keen, the champion, and David Stanton, took place at Agricultural Hall. The dis- tance was fifty miles. Both men rode wire machines, and the betting was heavy. At first Stanton was the favorite and then Keen. Previous to the start, however, it was rumored Stanton had covered the fifty miles in the best time on record, and in spite of Keen’s wonderful performances he was made the favorite. The race was close and exciting for twenty miles, then Keen took the lead, which he kept throughout in
