But whether a steamer runs to Montague or not, one certainiy should be procured tor Grand River.

The point at which the Boat will connect with the Railway may be either Georgetown or Souris, and, Goubtless, will be eagerly contested for by these two towns, but if the one boat serves for both Montague and Grand River, Georgetown will, likely, be the most convenient place, and nothing will do so much to improve the trade of

Dear Srr,—The Government have de- clared their intention of proceeding with 'the construction of the Cape Traverse Railway early in. the spring. This an- {nouncement will be received with pleasure | by the people of this Island, and will dis- | Sif ate the doubt which existed in the minds

of a great many electors of the Province |that the Cape Traverse Railway was a poli- P tical ruse.

| The next important question is where should the Cape Traverse Branch connect | i the P. E. I. Railway. Various routes

| have been proposed and each has its ad- vocates, but it is quite evident that the line icannot be built to accommodate every sactiigs of the Island. As the road is prin- | cipally intended for the conveyance of mails and passengers, the shortest route between | Cape Traverse and the leading points of | the Island should be selected and the line be so located as to accommodate the public generally and benefit the largest number of electors of the Province. You will ask how this object can be effected. I will answer by the Cape Traverse Brarch connecting with the main line at North Wiltshire. Any person who looks at the map of the Island will see that this is the shortest and most direct route between the Capes and Charlottetown and the principal points in Queen’s and King’s Counties, so that mails and passengers to and from any of these points by way of the Capes would reach their destinations much sooner by this than any other route. It will then be seen that this route would affect a saving of time and money to the people of Queen's and King’s Counties and the public gener- | ally, and is therefore entitled to their| advocacy.

It is true that pub lic attention has not been directed to this route until lately, and, therefore, the advantages it possesses are not generally known; but I am persuaded that the more the matter is discuased, the more public opinion will favor the North Wiltshire connection, The proper location of the Cape Traverse Railway is a matter of con- siderable importance to the public, and’ of particular interest to the people of Queen’s

and King’s Counties. Therefore, they should speak and act, promptly in the matter. I understand that a petition is

INNISFALLEN,

Ross Isiand, in the lowest or largest lake, is almost a peninsula ; It is connected with the shore by a bridge; but the island of Intisfallen is out near the middle of the lake. The lake is about five miles long by three wide. The island of loniefallen is about twenty-one acres in extent, Ross Island, much larger. Ross Castle was strongly fortified, and was the last place in Munster to surrender to the English in the middie of the seventeenth century. It is now only a grand and picturesque ruin.

The Abbey of Innisfallen, founded dbout the year 6( 00, must have been a grand estab- lishment in its day. In this Abbey, the celebrated ‘‘ Annals of Innisfailen” were composed, The original copy of these eunals is now preserved in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Killarney without..seeing Mucross Abbey. Within its cloistered walls, where the roof is still partially on, is to be seen a gigantic yew-tree, thirteen feet in circumference, which must have grown there since the time the monastery was occupied. Among the ruins of the church are to be seem wany tombs. bearing the illustrious names of Mc- Carthy, O'Sullivan, and O’ Donohoe Mor. Father Secchi, the distinguished astron- omer of Rome, is to have a building raised to his memory, under the auspices of the Pontifical Academy of the Nuovi Lincei. The sculptor Princi has a model showing a s'atue of Pather Secchi on the top of the monument, with a symbolical Meteorology holtingea barometer and a Physics a ther- mometer. These figures and instruments are calculated for eflect at a great distance. The building will contain apparatus used in tstronomy.
