Dave Fitzpatrick, Vice_President of Operations at UPEI Student Union, had been diligently calling Ontario twice a day during December. Dave was hoping to get Tom Cochrane to. commit to play at the Student Union Barn. He had been talking to Cochrane’s manager who had led Dave top believe that Cochrane would play UPEI. Then one day Cochrane’s manager explained that UPEI was not on the concert list. Dave was told that Tom Cochrane would not play for UPEI’s offer of ten thousand dollars. Dave went on to say, ‘‘IT probably wasn’t Cochrane’s decision. His manager probably made the decision.”’

Anyway, Tom Cochrane’s played Feb 3rd at the CP hotel. Tickets went for twenty dollars apiece and all one thousand tickets are sold. The CP offered 16 thousand dollars to Cochrane and he accepted. You would think that the Student Union would be resentful

towards the CP but Dave told me that UPEI wanted Cochrane to play Jan.27th and the CP bid ona differ ent date, Feb. 3rd. UPEI wouldn’t offer more than te thousand dollars because then the ticket prices would have to rise to about $32.00, which is too high. UPI Campus Ploice will be handling the security atthe _ Cochrane show with sixteen officers attending. Asked why the campus police are handling security _ Dave indicated that Campus police have been doing high school dances, barn activities, hockey games, et and have done a good job. On the other hand Garder of the Gulf Security, which usually handles security for local concerts, was not chosen due to problems a a recent Red Cross Relay event.
