During the discussion in the Cormimons last night on the amendments made im: the House of Lords to the coal mines bill, ‘Gra- ham, advanced Liberal jnember for Lanard- shire, wassuspended for refusing to apolo- give for derogatory reference to the House of Lords. _ Edward Harrington, Nationalist meimber for .West Kerry, was also. suspended ‘barringt.on, after béing warned ivr bis utterances dur- ing the debate, was ordered by the Speaker to resume his seat. He replied passionate- ly: “I. will yot resume my seat. You have been watching to pounce upon me ever since I rose, | claim my right to speak.” Harrington was thereupon sus- pended, and retired from the House amid cheers by the Parnellite members.

A Temperance Convention.

Toronto, Sept, 13. The special con¥ention of “teniperance workers from different parts of the Domin- ton opened here to-day. It was decided to take united action in every repeal contest and use every effort to prevent the loss of one inch ef ground, and. that immediate steps be taken towards preventing the te-election of ‘any member of Parliament who voted against the passing of the bill for

the total prohibition of the liquor traffic.

Cheering and Stonings.

Soria, Sept. 13. At a meeting of the Nationa] party yester- day 800 persons were present. A proces- sion of 2,000 persons marched to the palace and cheeied Ferdinand. Itthen proceeded to the residence of M. Kaiaveloff and stoned the windows. The police were unable to quell the disturbance, and many of them were injured. An Alarming Statement. Wasuineton, D. C., Sept. 13. The United States Consul at_ Pictou, N. S., has transmitted to the State Depart- meut the information that a dangerous and contagious disease exists among horses and sheep im Nova Scotia, that it threatens the the whole of Canada and may spread to the United States.

Died from His Lnjuries. Truro, Sept. 14. James Caston went on board the Quebec train last night to see some friends off, and while stepping from the train missed his step, and his right leg going under, it was cut off at the ankle: The leg was also fractured at the thigh. He died this morn- ing. Another Blaze. SPRINGHILL Mines, N. S:, Sept. 13: The Intercolonial, Railway coal, shed, with about 100 tonsef coal, were destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon at Springhill Junction. Four gondola cars ‘were also burned. The loss will be about $6,000.

Ferry Boats Collide.

Toronto, Sept. 15. Three ferry boats collided in the bay to- night, and four men were thrown into the water. Three were saved and one drowned.

Montreat, Sept. 13. The wholesale grocers guild have raised the price of granulated sugar half a cent, making it 74 cents per pound.
