His judgement was that the Annual Conference of New Bruns- wick and Prince Edward Island in connec- tion with the Methodist Church of Canada‘ and the N. B. Auxiliary Bible Society, are entitled to the whole residuary real and personal estate of the said Gilbert I. Ray, subject only to the payment of the legacy af $400 given by the said will to Chas. Pritchard, son of James Pritchard, and to the payment of an annuity of £100 per annum to Elizabeth C, Hallett, Fanny flallett, and Margaretta Ray Hallett, un« married daughter of Rachel Hallett, de- ceased, for the term of eight years from the death of the said Rachel Hallett, fur- ther consideration and costs reserved,— St. John News.

in the Halifax Herald's article on finance and commerce the following paragraph appears: “ We should judge that our sister Gity of St, John is somewhat overcrowded with idle people, and would not advise any of our Halifax mechanics to try that labor Market at present. As a specimen brick of the condition of affairs in a social way, we notice that on Monday last no less than thirty-one drunken men were paraded bee fore the Police Courts in that city, and the amount of fines in one day totted up $240. Phis is a frightful picture of drunkeness snd vice,and we trust it does not grow Out of misapplied bounty of outsiders # ven to tle needy in their trouble. FREIGHTS. Freights continue to be promising. The arrivals continue moderate, the ton nage supply is reduced to a low ebb and the market isin a stronger position than for a

So far as freights to Europe are concerned, the market has ruled firm all the week, but busi. ness has been to some extent restricted by the scarcity of available vessels and the strong produce prices current. There has been littleor no disposition manifested to speculate in tonnage, yet @. considerable uumber of vessels have been taken up by exporters, to arrive during the autumn, both for grain aud oil, at about the rates paid on the spot, including 4 number of steamships to come over from England chiefly at 8s. per quarter for grain, and 45s, per ton for provisions to the Continent, Dutch ports ex- cluded. No business in new crop cotton has thus far transpired, but 7-16d. would be paid for suitable vessels from Wilmington and Charleston and 4d. from the Gulf to Liver- pool and Havre, October and November loading, WestIndia and South American treights are higher, smal! vessels being very scarce; bul business has been light. The eoastwise trade remains in an unsatisfactory position.
