Tue City Council have not as yet accepted the offer of the Gas Company, for lighting the city streets until the electric light is com- pleted. The Company are removing their lamps from the streets. Some Councillors say they can do without light on the streets es well as the Directors of the Gas Company.
AppLes AND Piums —This season, Mr. F. P. Sharp, of Woodstock, has raised in his extensive orchard 2200 barrels of New Bruns- wick apples and 800 barrels of winter apples, besides 1000 bushels of plums. The greater qu: n ity of this fruit was shipped to St. John and Boston.
A TRAIN, with a comfortable box car, sup- plied with chairs, runs every Tuesday and Friday between Sackville and Ray Verte, and already quite a large traffic has been de- veloped.—Amherst Gazette.

Terrible Death at Moneton.

A man named William Dawaon, sec‘ionr- man at Moncton, was killed there this morning. He has been employed on the road ever since commencement of Northern Division. While shunting, the cars ran over him, completely cutting him in two at the hips.
Gladstone on Church Disestablish- ment Lonvon, Oct, 31.
Gladstone has written a highly important letter on Church Disestablishment. He tauats the Tories with thrusting the ques- tion forward as a political dodge. He aflirms that the project belongs to a dim distant future, and that the public mind is not prepared for the echeme. In conelu- sion he says :-—‘‘ The subject is for others’ and not for me to deal with.”
Irishmen Meet in Glasgow. Guase.w, Oct. 31. A great meeting of Irishmen was held here to-night. Timothy O'Connor presided. John Redmond, M. P., made a speech, in course of which he said he believed that boycotting was a safe guard against crime. All the speakers strongly advocated implicit obedience to Parnell as a matter ef policy.
The Egyptian Pifficulty—A Bloody Fight.
Sr. Perersspurc, Nov. 1. A bloody fight is reported at Baku, on the Caspian Sea, between the Moslema and Russians. The military had to be called out to reatore order. In the fighting, sev- eral Russians were killed and a large num- ber wounded.

The French in Tonquin.
Paris, Oct. 31. Voltaire states that the French forces in Tonquin, owing to the recent victory over the Biack Pisg:, is to be reduced to 12,000 men with 3 200 Annam recruits, which it is believed will suffice to secure quiet in th Delta of Red River as far as Yuuna.
Steamboat Explosion.
Derxoirt, Nov. 1. This morning the tug Moffatt put into Sombra. As she was making fast to the wharf her boiler exploded, carrying away the upper works and a large part of the deck planking. Four men were killed and two injured.
