We were shown this forenoon the exhibit of tobacco prepared for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, by Mr. T. B. Riley, Vater Street. The exhibit consists of five cases of the best quality of smoking and chewing tobsccos, manufactured by Mr. Riley. The tobacco is neatly packed in hand- some boxes, each one of which has the name of the mauufacturer and other information conspicuously printed thereon.

A meetine of Presbytery was held in Zion Church to-day. The business chiefly con- sisted in disposing of calls from different congregations. Calls have been extended from the Charch at Summerside to Rev. John Marray, at present in Sydney, but who was formerly stationed at New London; from Mount Stewart, to Rev, James McLean ; and from East St. Peters to Rev. Mr. McKenzie Mr. McKenzie has accepted the call and will be inducted in a fortnight.

Tue facts have been learned of a number of disasters in the South Pacific Islands. The sohr. Navigator, which left San Fraacisco several months ago fora cruise among the Samoan Islands, was struck by a heavy sea, capsized and became a total loss while bound from Apia to another Samoan port. The crew and seven passengers were saved. The schr. Darmitila, cruising amorg the Sandwich Islands, was discovered bottom up in the Hawalin Channel. She hsd on board a crew of six men and one passenger, all of whom it is believed are lost. The vessel was valued at 6,509. On Jan, 28th, the steamer Planter, bound from Kanai to Nihan. Sandwich Is- lands, struck ona rock near tae latter place and was completely wrecked. No lives were lost. She was valued at $75,000 and insured.

We understand that the members of the Union Dramatic Club of this city intend giv- ing a performance ia Summerside on St. Patrick’s Night. The entertainment will be under the auspices of St. Vincent de Paul Society, of Summerside, and the programme includes the popular Irish drama, ‘* More Sinned Against than Sinning,” and the laugh- able farce, “Should This Meet the Eye.” Both drama and farce were twice performed in the Academy of Music last winter, and on each occasion the Academy was crowded and the performance a grand success, The scenery used in the drama was painted expressly for the Club, and is very handsome and appro- priate, We assure our Summerside friends that a rich treat is in store forthem, and _ be- speak for the Club a crowded house.

Arrer their trial in the Stipendiary Magis- trate’s Court yesterday forenoon for the larceny of Dr. Bagnall’s coat, the two Brown boys were removed to the Police Station and placed in a cell. After being in the cell about two hours they complained of the cold and asked permission of Policeman Costello, who was the only officer in the station at the time to be allowed to go out to the stove and warm themselves. ‘his the officer at first re- fused to do, but at length he took pity upon the two boys and let them out to the stove Here they warmed themselves thoroughly, all the while glancing about for some avenue of escape, John, the elder, espied the back door open and putting on a grand burst of speed started in that diree- tion. The fence enclosing the yard was speedily climbed, and the noble ‘“ Buck- ley” was nambered with the lost. As there was no officer in the Station out Costello at the time «f the escape, and he had to put Andy and another prisoner in their cells be- fore he could start in pursuit, Brown's escape was ewily effected. In May last the Duke of Marlborough made an offer to the National Gallery of eleven of the best pictures in the collection at Blen- heim palace for £367,000. This offer was made subject to the permission of the Court of Chancery. This has now been obtained, and an auction sale of the Blenheim art collection, with the exception of some family portraits, is sanctioned to take place next June. The Times, commenting on the Duke’s offer at the time, admitted that the sum demanded was high, but hoped that the calamity of the pictares being lost to the National Gallery would be averted. ‘‘The pictures,” it said, ‘‘sre of unique historical interest and should be acquired for the nation.” The collection contains some of the masterpieces of Titian and Reubens, and the sale will complete the despoiling of the earthly paradise which was presented to the victor of Blenheim by a gratefnl nation,
