The Sterns Limited, dry clean- fng and laundering business was first established in its present site, at the, corner of Kent and Hillsboro Streets, in 1897 by the late -E.D. Sterns.

In 1944, the business changed hands and tame under the own- ership of the late Picton R~Mc- Cormac, who prior to that time had operated a laundry estab lishment in St. John’s Newfound- land.

The operation of the thriving business. was suddenly brought to-a femporary halt, when the building with all its machinery Was completely destroyed by a disastrous fire which struck on the night of Sept. 28, 1946.
