At his home, Commercial Cross, Sept. 28, at the age of 64 years, Peter Stewart, Esq., leaving a family of five daughters and four sons with a sorrowing wife and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. In years past the deceased was largely known iu business circles, and his funeral procession showed that he was still kindly remembered by many of his former associates, who respected him for his enterprise and generosity.

AccipENt.—During the progress of the sailing ‘race yesterday forenoon, the mast of the Mabel C. broke, and in falling struck the owner, Mr. Geo. Ledwich, on the head, inflicting injuries which necessitated, the calling in of medical assistance.

Pay Dxiu.—-The members of No. 1 Battery G. A., will meet at the Drill Shed this evening at 7.30 o'clock to receive their annual drill pay. All who have riffes out, and other accoutrements belonging to the armory, are requested to hand them in.

We understand that the Evening Session of the Charlottetown Business College and Writing Academy will open on the 13th inst. Already « large number of applica- tions have been received. Young men, who are engaged during the day will consult their own interests by embracing the ad- vantages this session affords.

Wuat Masonry Dip For Hiw.—A King: ston, Ont., man named William DeGeer has just been sentenced to two years in the peni- tentiary at Williamsburg. It appears that he married Eliza Jane man, after- wards asked to join the Masanic a. in looking up his history the masons learned that he had a wife and child in Dufferin Co. The matterwas given to the county attorney, an arrest followed, and at the court DeGeer pleaded guilty.

Fire at Tryon.—A barn which belonged to Mr. W. W. Howatt, Tryon, was set fire to by his little son, six years old, on Mon- day night, and completely destroyed. The barn contained all Mr. Howatt’s crop of this year, besides a threshing mill and other machinery. Building and contents are entirely destroyed. The loss is a severe one, amounting to about $600. When the flames were first discovered it was ow that the boy was in the building, and his mother was almost distracted, but after the fire had burned out he was found in bed, safe and sound. On being questioned, he said that he had passed through the barn, and dropped a lighted match into some straw. Then he went behind a neighbor’s stable to see the fire, and when time came went home.
