and our undying sense of knowing the unknowable.

I was among the several hundred individuals who crashed their way into the Student Centre recently to bear witness to an event that some would declare a controversial oc- currence. Indeed, witnessing two individuals, both of whom are on top of their intellectual game, duke it out in an uncensored (I liked that ‘masturbation’ was said a lot), no- holds barred event in which both sides tried their darndest to prove their deepest and most powerful beliefs.

I naturally am speaking of the recent “Does God Exist?” debate held on our campus, where a Dr. Joe Valaidum squared off against a Dr. Malcolm Murray in an event that boomed beyond attendance I had anticipated.

left seatless, forced to enjoy the spectacle from the left of the stage on the cold, hard, dirty floor, with my cell phone, keys and cigarettes jammed into both legs, as if this event and the leg pain that fol- lowed were a message that God is angry at me for not making it to church every Sunday.

I ignored the sharp pain in close vicinity to my most sensitive of areas and began to scratch down quote after quote from these titans of worship (or lack there of).

I was impressed, and what was even more impressive was the number of people who made the

trek to witness the event. Mr dear cousin was in attendance. Not a student at the school, he offered a few co-workers a bargain to allow him to leave his post so he could watch the debate.

In this issue, we asked you stu- dents your opinion on the debate. One answer that caught my eye

was an international student who was intrigured by the variance in beliefs and this debate could only add to the interest.

Indeed it did.

Never one to turn down a re- ligious debate, my interest had piqued on account of the debate and I feel I was not let down. Both professors were on top of their game and the debate was stimulat- ing, though it appeared at time they would just reiterate what they had said on the previous questions. I for one hope for more of this in the

‘With teeth clenched and gears grinding

Just when I think I can retire a rant column, relax and know that the end of my days at UPEI are in sight, I stumble upon something so asinine, it grinds my gears to the point I feel compelled to write a response, even if it’s on a sunny Friday afternoon. This morning I came across the bombastic ramblings of a blogger who calls himself simply “The Is- land Voice Tribune,” who, due to spacing issues, I will refer to only as IVT (and since at no time does he man up and reveal his real name.) To give you a little background, IVT is a right wing conservative mudslinger who, like a raving luna- tic, makes grandiose allegations and takes fallacy-riddled cheap shots at non-conservative Island politicians, all whilst hiding behind his Inter- net pseudonym and his unnamed

“sources,” who he constantly refers to. One article I came across asked, “Is UPEI issuing phony degrees?” again backed up by sources he never names.

He goes on to write that the degrees you and I have put so much time and effort into framing are essentially worthless and unrecognized by oth- er Canadian universities, citing the Global Issues 151 fiasco and a lack of internal relation courses for poli- sci majors.

IVT said students challenged the UPEI administration in droves, and that our wonderful friends at The Semantic were going to bend them over backwards by writing a tell-all exposé.

That’s until we here at the “Douchebag Post,” as he refers to us, ratted them out to the higher- ups, who then threatened our poor pals. I, nor any other employee at this paper have any knowledge of this ever taking place.

This is only one in a long list of lousily researched articles, making people like IVT the reason Internet sourcing is frowned upon in the aca- demic community. So for that, I say this: We get it, man. You’re edgy and cool. Yeah! You’re the coolest guy on e-blogs!

I’m sure by now, some of you ul- tra-feminists may be thinking, “Jar- rod, how can you assume it’s a guy? Girls can write too!”

It’s because I know IVT. I know his real name. But because I can’t prove it, I'll have to leave it at that because an arrogant jackass with a superiority complex like him would probably take me to court, due to a lack of evidence.

Just know that I could knock you off your political pedestal pretty quickly, and that next time you aren’t nice, things will get real.
