The letter was signed by Mr. Alex Macbean, president of the local branch of the Canadian Bro- therhood ot Railroad Employees and criticized the Premier !or statements contained in his cor- respondence with Mir. W.E. Robin- son, vice president of the Canadian National Railways, Moncton. re- garding the proposed bus fran- chise.

Members of the Maritime Prov- inces Board of Trade Legislative Committee will appear be-iore the Governments of the four Maritime Provinces to present the Boards views and recomi-nendations in re- spect to the Industrial Develop- ment of the Maritime Provinces. Among other things the briefs to be presented will include recom- mendations on Industrial Develop- ment, Power and Immigration pol- icies. This decision was reached at I meeting of the Mi.P.B.T. Exec- utive held Friday in Saint John.

As indicated in the Estimates, the Federal Government has made provision for the dredging of Savage Harbour and word to this

M1 Minister of Fisheries.

"With further reference to your letter of March 12," Mr. Mayliew writes. "I am pleased to advise you that the Department of Pub- lic Works has made provision for the dredging of Savage Hubour, P. E. 1.. on the program for De- partmental Dredge No. 17,

"This is the lamest item on the Program for Dredge No. 17 which has also been allotted proiects for 1952-53 at Rustico and a

number of other harbours. A large part, If not all the dredging at Savage Harbour. should be

completed in 1952-53."

The vote placed in the estimatt-s for the Savage Harbour project is sl56.000.

TUESDAY

'I believe there are more people in Prince Edward Island employ- ed in defence industry than ever before," said Hon. Eugene Cullen in the Legislature last night when he rose to take part in the debate on the Budget.

I-Ian. Mr. Cullen cited the work being done at Bruce Stewart and Co. as well as the maintenance work at Maritime Central Air- ways and the large number of civilian employees at the airport in Summerside. He maintained that Premier Jones was the man to whom the credit: should go hr obtaining this work for Island labor.

The Minister of Industry and Natural Resources told the incin- bers that experiments wcre being made with a small drag net to use in regular fishing boats. Last year. he stated, there was a. similar scheme but the net prov- ed too heavy for lobster boats as there was not enough power. The new type net is one designed by a former resident of the Nether-

lands, now living in Nova scotta and it is believed that it may prove workable with the small boats.

A strong appeal for fuller sup- port of community projects by citizens as A whole was made by Mayor J. D. Stewart in address- ing the Charlottetown Rotary Club yesterday.

t'I am afraid," His Worship said. "that we are greatly dc- ficicnt in a real community spir- it. it has been history that many a project, civic. provincial or federal. has been lost to the com- munity ihrough petty bickering and petty individual jealousy.

"One does not have to leave this Province to find an example of what a real community spirit will do," he continued. "I cite the town of Sumrnerside as that example. The attitude there is ill it's good for Summerside we want Ifllnd we will get ii."'

In a drive to bring the session to an end before Easter, members oi the Legislature yesterday devoted three periods to debate on the Bud- get. Morning. sfternoon and night sessions were held wttli practically all speakers making an effort to be brief and confine their remarks to pertinent subjects.

Mr. J. George Miacxay. Fourtiil Prince, was named chairman of ll committee to be named to study the problem of electoral reform in: the Province. The committee will, report to the House at the next, or any special session.

A possibility of it special session being called was seen in the nam- ing of a Transportation Committee to look into the matter of issuing at bus franchise to the Canadian National Railway. The committee is to study the whole problem and as Premier J. Walter Jones said. report to the Legislature at the; next session "or a special session" it it is felt. necessary to call one.

The Provincial Govcrnnicnt in- tends to appoint a committee with a capable chairman and other qualified members to in- quire into the course of studies at Prince of Wales College and to find out the benefit of the Mari- time Board Crude XI, it was an- nounced in the Legislature last night by Premier J. "There is a field of loose ice in the vicinity of Bird Roch which is causing ships on the steamer track to be diverted nortlr." Cap- tain Churlos A. Shaw, observer of the aerial" ice patrol said last night. "Other than that the ice is widely scattered west of the track." he added.

Flying on a line from north of Bird Rock to Cape Ray, clear water was evident in the whole region. The George Bay area was also observed as being ice free. Poor visibility prevented them from charting the eastern count of Cape Breton, but with good weather it is expected they will cover that territory today. Lots of open water was noted east of East Point and the northern part of Prince Edward Island appear- ed to be relatively free of ice.

West, in Summerslde. yesterday, heard the cries of two small children coming from the area near the mouth of a brook which leads from the ice pond at the west entrance to Summersldu and flows into the harbor.

Looldng in the direction of the cries he observed two small child- rcn struggling in water over their reads.

Running to the spot. he waded in without fear for himself, and in turn rescued the two children from drowning.

The little tots were Terry, ago 3. and Beverly, age 4. son and dau- ghter of Flying Ofiicer and Mrs. Richard Baptiste.

It appeared that the two child- ran were playing near the mouth of the brook when the girl in some manner fell into the water. and in Irving to assist his little sister, the
