Bertbas and Marie Antoinette fichus of silk muslin, with plaited frills of the same, one falling partly over the other, are always useful in imparting a fresh, dainty effect to a gown at small expense.

Green in endless shades is used on sum- mer toilets both for linings under trans- parents and for entire toilets, foundations under short cape¥ of chiffon, silk muslin, grenadine, etc., and in millinery the color is used to excess.

The checked, brocaded, striped and bar- red silk and wool materials imported this season are suitable for any ordinary occa- sion, and if tailor made and stylishly trimmed they form elegant church, visit- ing and carriage costumes.

The time of hatching more than the breed regulates laying. Early hatched pullets make winter layers; late hatched ones summer layers.

SIMPLE SALVE.

A plaster of tallow and soap will, it is said, reduce the swelling and relieve the pain of a bunion.

For a nervous headache drink a cup of moderately strong tea in which two or three slices of lemon have been infused.

For binding up cuts and wounds always use linen, not cotton, as the fibers of cot- ton are flat and apt toirritate a sore place, while those of linen are perfectly rounded.

For tired feet put a handful of common salt into four quarts of hot water. Place the feet in the water while it is hot as it can be borne. ‘Then rub the feet dry with @ rough towel.
