Presbytery of P. EB. Island.
The Presbytery of P. E. Island met at Georgetown on the 2ad inst., at 2 o'clock, p. m., for the purpose of hearing Mr. W. 'H. Spencer’s ordination trials. e Was accordingly examined in Hebrew, in Greek, Church History and Theology. In these several branches, Ms. Spencer acquitted himself to the entire satisfaction of the Presbytery. With his trial discourses the ‘Presbytery were also highly pleased. On taking a conjunct view of all these trial ex- vercises, the Presbytery unapimously and cordially sustained them, and agreed to
| proceed with Mr. Spencer's ordination at 7
o'clock, p. m., same day.
At 7 o'clock p. m., pursuant to adjourn- ‘ment, the Presbytery met and was consti- cuted. The dict having been read a second time to the congregation assembled

[the Rev. M. Campbell delivered a most ap- propriate sermon for the occasion. Rev ‘Mr. McKay then narrated the steps pre- viously taken in connection with this call, put the usual formula of questions, when ‘the Presbytery (Mr. McKay) leading in ‘prayer “by the laying on of bands,’ solemnly ordained Mr, Spencer to the work ‘of the winistery, and inducted him into the pastoral charge of the congregation at Georgetown and Montague. The minister wrs adddressed by Rev. Mr. McKay, and the congregation by Rev. Mr. Frame on their respective duties and responsibili- ties, The Trustees paid the first quarter's salary in advance, and the congregation welcomed their pastor in the usual way.
Oct. 6:h.—The Presbytery met at Alber- ton to hear Mr. George Fisher’s ordination trials. The examination in Hebrew, Greek, History and Theology was most satisfac- tory, and his trial di:conrses were of a very high order. On the following morning the Presbytery wet in the new Chureh in Montrose for the purpose of «1dsining Mr, Fisher. The edict having beer duly ecrved, and no objections having been cflered, the Moderator, Rev. Wm. P. Archibald, A. M , delivered an able and sppropriate discon) s« on Luke, 10 chap., 2nd verse, after which he narrated the steps taken, put the formula of questions, which being satisfactorily auswered, the Presbytery by selemu prayers and the laying on of hands ordained Mr. Fisher to the work of the holy Ministry, and inducted him into the pas- toral charge of the congregation of Mont- rose, Elmsdale and Tignish. Rev. A. F Carr. A. M.. then addresved the ministers and Rev. N. McKay the congregation, in suitable terms, on their respective duties and responsibilities. At this stage, the Trustees laid on the table the first quarter of their pastor’s salary in advance, and the congregation extended the usual welcome to their pastor.
Both of these young men enter upon
their work with encouraging prospecis, and the congregations are to be congratulated on securing the services of young men 80 well qualified in every respect for the work of the Ministry. At the meeting in Georgetown a very cordial and unanimous call was sustained from the congregation of Cardigan and Dundas to Rev. Ewen Gillies, of Eariton, Nova Scotia. The salary guaranteed is $750, and a free manse.
Rev. James Thompson was appointed to preach at Murray Harbor on first and second Sabbaths of October, and in East St. Peter's on third and fourth Sabbaths of same month.
Rev. Mr. Roulsten was appointed to preach in Richmond Bay West on second Sabbath of October, and at Murray Hoerbor on the third and fourth Sabbaths of the same month.
The next quarterly meeting of Presbytery will be held (D. V.) in Summerside, on the first Tuesday of November, at 11 o'clock, a. m.

The “Rum Seller.”
Sir,—I suppose you have noticed at temperance meetings how wickedly the speakers *‘go tor” the Rum Setter. How they hiss the words out through their teeth
and you can imagine with how much pleasure they covld put their foot on his neck. This is, I think, rather against the advancement of the cause they would heip along. Calling names never was a very plucky kind of fighting. If when this thing begins, the hquor dealers were to be- gin cailing the teetotal dinsmith a ‘‘tinker,” the painter a “‘dauber,’ aud the teetotal shoe maker a ‘‘cobbler,’ and the teetotal Parscn a‘ tky-pilot,” and so on, the effect would not be very grand nor enobling. In enlightened England this caliing of names is, 1 think, comparatively rare among the temperance advucates, and is confined to the low and vulgar.

Mrs, D. W. Pelkington, of Wickham, Queen’s County, was engaged washing and leit the kitchen to hang out some clothes. Her three- year-old daughter was lett in the rocm and during her mother’s absence fell into a tub of boiling water. The child’s screams alarmed Mrs. Pelkington, and she rushed in and puiled out the little one, when it was found that it was terribly scalded about the body Dr. McDonald was called in and did all he could for the little suff-r, but she expired the same morning.—-St. John Telegraph.
