The scene of the tragedy was the

apartments onthe fourth floor of the Atiantic State Bank Building, Nos. 49 and 51 Fulton Street. The rooms ars OK upied by Gideon Kemlo, a com posti- tor in. the oftice of the Even ng Post and his wife the parents of Mr Kemlo.

The latter and his wife came to visit their parents, leaviag their children aged three years and three months, re-

spectively, with friends. Shortly after noon, Mrs Kemlo, Sr., left her soo and his wife sitting quietly in the front room which she occupied and went out to do some marketing. In a few minutes, there was a commotion in the room, and

a cry of fire was raised. Aclerk in the bank ran up stairs tosee where the fire was. He heard sereams in/|

Kemlo’s rooms,and hastened to open the doors, when he was confronted by the sight of Mr. Kemlo drawing

knife across his throat and the blood spurting forth. He rushed down stairs for aid, and had just reached the street

and was calling to a policeman on the opposite side, when he was appalled by seeing the suicide’s body tailing from the fourth story window to the pave-| mentbelow. The policeman and others | had, meanwhile, hastened to the room whence the suicide had precipitated | himself, and found that he bad murder-|} ed his wife before killing himself. | The room bore evidence of a terrible struggle. ‘as Not a Soldiers Widow. |

as the Yellowstone. Believing her husband dead, she was married to Featherstone at the Norfolk Street

Methodist Church, Brooklyn,in Janu- ary, 1880. About a month ago Mrs. Wileox received a letter, which had been written nearly a year before by her soldier husband, who is still alive. It appeared that her change of residence led to other letters been mislaid. He wrote to her, looking forward to an early reunion, being unconscious of the real condition of affairs at home. He had not been killed ; but had been taken prisoner by the Indians, from whom he made good his escape, and had rejoined his comrades. The husband also wrote that he was in New Mexico. The woman, who was almost distracted upon receipt of the startling information communicated the facts to Mr. Feather- stone, who applied for a decree of divorcee with the result set forth A child, the issue of the second union, adds to the complications. -~-a—r-

Tomatoes may be kept almost any length of time, and come out as fresh as when first picked, by preserving in fresh vinegar diluted with water— one gillof vinegar, and two of water. Pick when ripe, but not very soft, leave the stems on, but do not break theskin. Put into wood or stone, and put the liquid on them when cold. After you get through putting them in, place something on them to keep them under the liquid, and take out as you may wish tousethem. Can use them as you would tomatoes from the vine. ‘This will not failif your vinegar is pure and diluted according to directions, It is highly probab'e that cucumbers might be preserved in the same way, selecting those of medium size and leaving on the stems,
