JNEW GLASGOW W. I.

Mia. Elmer MacDonald enter- tained the-Women's Institute at her home on Monday evening. October 6th. The meeting opened by singing the Ode followed by the Creed. Fourteen members an- swered roll call by naming their birthstone and birth date.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and. approved. School committee reported soap needed for the school. In the absence of the sick committee. no report was given. New committees were then appointed as follows: Lunch and school, Mrs. Roy Dlckieson and Miss Ann Stevenson: sick. Mrs. Harold and Mrs. Richard Dickie- mn; program, Mrs. C. B. Dihgwell and Mrs. Foster Sellar.

Correspondence was read and discussed. The secretary was ask- ed to write to Mr. Jones regard- ing the teaching of singing in the school.

A committee was appointed to plan ways oftraising money for the piano fund. Mrs. Revell Dick- ieson offered to have the sewing class for the girls for another rear, each member to assist with the teaching as required. Mrs. R. B. Dickieson will entertain the next meeting.

Mrs. Harland Hill had a "man" contest for the program, followed iiy a hearty sing-song: Collection amounted to 31.46, and the can- rnssers passed in collections for the Cancer Fund.

Members then enjoyed a sociable chat while lunch was served by the committee in charge, assisted by the hostess. The meeting closed ay singing the National Anthem.

The regular meeting of the Or- well Cove Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. John MacRae on October 10th. There were.nlne members and one guest in attendance.

The president presided. The meeting opened with the "Creed in unison, followed by the T011 03" and reading. of minutes of previous meeting. .

The committees gave their re- ports. Correspondence was read, questionnaire nlled. and W. I. News distributed.

It was decided to wash the paint in the schoolruom during that fail holidays. Three members paid 25 cents to the A.C.W.W. Fund.

After some discussion it was decided to hold a dance in the hall in the near future, lunch to be served,

The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Waiter MacLeod. when roll call is to be "payment or dues". The meeting adjourned, and a. delicious lunch was served by the hostess assisted by MW- Chas. a.Mcdonald, during a pleas- ant social hour.

The regular meeting of River- tiaie-Churchill W. I. was held at the home oi Miss Wanda Buchan- an on Wednesday. September 5. with a good attendance of mem- bers and visitors present.

The meeting opened in the usual way, with the president, Mrs. John A. MiicKlnnon. presiding. the minutes of the last. meetiniz were read and approved. Roll call was answered with something for the Bazaar." and um ,ondence was read by the acting secretary.

It was decided to hold a ham supper in the school on Septem- hcr 20th; also a bazaar. The pro- aram committee put. on an inter- esting program, after which a dainty Lunch was served by the hostess, followed by the National Anthem. I

Members of Brooklyn Institute will be invited to the November meeting at which it is hoped to have a special speaker. Mrs. Lloyd Wiikie will be the hostess, assisted by Miss Margaret Forsythe. Mrs. John Oliver, Mrs. Erskine Clark and Mrs. .Ross Campbell.

An interesting description of her recent trip to points in the United States and the Province of Que- bec, illustrated with views, was given by Mrs. Erskine Clark. A reading was given by Mrs. Lloyd Wiikie. A pleasing feature of the meeting was the presentation of a birthday gift to the hostess, the presentation being made by the president, Mrs. Oliver. During the social hoiir, refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs. George Irving.

FRENCH RIVER W. I.

The regular monthly meeting of Coronation W. I. was held at the home of Mrs, Elmer Parsons on Thursday evening. October 9. '

The meeting opened with the In- stitute Ode and repeating the Creed in unison.

Minuta of the last meeting were read and approved and roll call was answered by 12 iembers and one visitor, each giving a donation for an Auction Sale. The Red Cross loan cupboard that had been sent for has been received and is in the charge of Mrs. Weldon Duggan R.N. The sick committee reported that two treats had been sent, and the new school committee appointed was Mrs. Arthur Paynter and Mrs. George Howatt.

Correspondence consisted of a letter acknowledging the donation sent to the Cancer Campaign, and also a letter of thanks from the Salvation Army Red Shield appeal.

The programme consisted of an auction sale and the sum of 35.65 was realized, Collection amounted to 90 cents. The meeting closed with the National Anthem, after which lunch was served by the hostess and ladies in charge.

STANHOPE W. I

The regular meeting of the Stan- hope W. I. was held at the home of Mrs, Malcolm MacLauchlan on October 14th. The president opened the meeting by hrving the "collect" repeated in unison. Twcive mem- bers answered the roll call by pay- ing 25 cents to the A.C.W.W. fund.

The minutes of the last meetini: were read, approved and signed. The sick committee gave their re- port on calls made, and there was no report from the school commit- tee. New committees appointed were as follows: sick. Mrs. Harry Lawson and Mrs. Harry MacLauch- lan; school, Mrs, John Misener.

Mrs. James MacLauchlan is to send for sewing from the Red Cross Society and a collection was taken for the Cancer Fund.

The singing of the National An- them brought the meeting to a close. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by the lunch com- mittee, and a social hour enjoyed.

ANGLO - RUSTICO W. I.

The Anglo-Rustico Women's In- stitute met at the Buntain home on Tuesday evening, October 7th, with seven members and two vis- itors present. The president. Mrs. I.ePage, was in the chair and the meeting opened with the Ode fol- lowed by the Collect in unison.

The minutes of last meeting were read and approved and roll call was answered with donation to the Orphanage fund. The col- lection for this worthy object is not completed as several of the members were absent. The col- lectors for the cancer fund re- ported 314.50.

The sick committee reported sev- eral calls and new committees were appointed as follows: Sick, Mrs. B. Parkman and Mrs. R. Stevenson; school. Mrs. C. Toombs: lunch, Mrs. E. Rollings and Mrs. G. R. LePage: program, Mrs. E. Rolllngs and Mrs. N. Hooper.

Correspondence was read and discussed and Institute,News dis- tributed. On motion a bill for flowers was ordered paid. The members decided to send for 3000 cod oll capsules.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Cyril Toombe when roll call will be answered with annual dues. singing of The Island Hymn" closed this part of

In response to an invitation from the program committee- Mrs. Stevenson and Mrs. Toombs -Mrs. Warfleld Orr of Mayfleld was present at the meeting and gave very interesting demons n- tions on cushion makin embroid- ery on huck-a-back nen and articles made from table oil cloth. The thanks of the meeting was extended to Mrs. Orr. Mrs. Noel Hooper put on I. very interesting musical contest.-

Lunch was served by the com- mittee in charge.

SOUTH MILTON W. I.

, Miss Murdock Nicholson was hostess to the South Milton Wo- men's Instltute on October 14 for the monthly meeting. The presi- dent, Mrs. J. D. MacDonald pre- sided. and opened the meeting with

the Collect. Twelve members, re- sponded to roll call. The sick committee reported

taking cards and fruit to two sick ladies. The school committee stat- ed that all the needs of the school had been supplied. Mrs. Nichol- son, reporting for Red Cross, had passed in six pairs of panties, one Sweater. and one blanket. More work was given out.

The correspondence consisted of receipts for 344.05 from the Sal- vation Army, and 55.00 from the Cancer Fund; fees of 25 cents per member for the A. C. W.W.. and three "thank you" cards.

At the next meeting, the roll call will be answered with the price of a "get well" card. The lunch committee will be Mrs. Wil- lis. Mrs. Robert Hooper. Miss Ad- die Moore and Mrs. Curtis. The place of meeting was left open for invitation invitation. A collection of 31.25 was received.

Mrs. A: E. Piercey gave a very interesting demonstration of ”Wcav-it” and showed articles made on it. At the Novembeer meeting Mrs. Murdock Nicholson will give a demonstration of her own selection.

Refreshments were served by the hostess and committee and a social hour enjoyed.

FIIEDERICTON W. I.

The regular meeting of Frederic- ton Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Hyatt Hasiam on October min with eight members and one visitor present. The meet- ing opened by signing the Institute Ode and repeating the collect. Roll call was answered with an article for an auction sale which brought 62.47.

The minutes of the last meeting were read. approved and signed. The treasurer reported the proceeds from films and candy sale was si3.17. After the bills were paid the reminder was given to the teacher to purchase books for the school library. .

Correspondence was read and discussed. Mrs. iwl.A. Outcliffe in- vited members for the November meeting when roll call will be an- SWEFCCI by paying membership fee. The committee will be hostesses. Mrs. W. E. Stevenson. and Mrs, Clinton Glydon: entertainment. Mrs. N. A. Cutcliffe and Mr: Hyatt Haslam.

Cornwall-York Point Women's Institute held its regular monthly meeting on October 6 at the home of Mrs. James Beer with the vice- president presiding in the absence of the president. The meeting opened with the "Ode", followed by repeating the "Creed" in unis- on. Roll call was answered by 18 members and four visitors. Min- utes of the last meeting were read, approved and signed.

Correspondence was read and discussed. It was moved by Mrs. Howard and seconded by Mrs. Bain that a carpenter be asked to make the signs for entering Corn- wall district.

The York Point school commit- We reported getting cups and also text book. The Cornwall commit- tee were absent.

Mrs. Bain kindly invited mem- bers to her home for the annual meeting, roll call to be answered with each member giving 25 cents for the A.C.W.W. entertainment fund.

The meeting closed with "The Queen”. A delicious lunch was served by the Cornwall ladies. and a social hour was spent.

LONG RIVER. W. I.

The regular meeting of the Long River Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Ernest Dun- ning with an attendance of 17 members. ,

The president presided and the meeting opened by singing the Island Hymn, followed by the Creed in unison.

Minutes of .the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported s256.66 proceeds from the turkey supper. It was moved and seconded that a bill at store be paid. also that the teacher get refill for first aid kit.

New committees for next month are: School, Mm. Mae Brown. Mrs. George, Paynter. Mrs. Ralph Thompson, and Mrs. Horace Thompson; sick, Mrs. Nelson Mc- Leod. Mrs. E. Dunning, and Mrs. Bruce Bell; lunch, Mrs. Edwin Bernard, Mrs. James Bernard, Mrs. Allan Campbell, and Mrs. Keith Campbell.

Correspondence was read and discussed. Mrs. Wm. E. Johnstone, Mrs. E. Dunning and Mae Found kindly offered to collect for the Orpllnnages.

The president presided and op- ened the meeting in the usual manner by singing the Ode and repeating the Creed in unison. Roll call was taizen with 13 members present. Two new mem- bers were welcomed to the Insti- tute.

It was moved by Mrs. Craswell, seconded by Mrs. Thomson, that 52.00 be paid toward the Musical Festival, also decided that all bills be paid. It was decided to hold a social in the school this month. Sick and school reports were given. and new committees ap- pointed as follows: School. Mrs. Francis and Miss Matheson; sick, Mrs. Macwilliams and Mrs. Har- vey, re-elected; lunch, Mrs. Har- old Muttart, Mrs. Sutherland and Mrs. Cairns. Collection amounted to 80 cents. and the sale of col)-ee to 30 cents.

Mrs. Wendell Macwilliams kind- ly invited the members to meet at her home for the October meet- ing. roll call to be answered by paying 25 cents towards the A.C. W.W. fund. Cards were distrib- uted to some of the members for the cancer fund.

The October meeting of the Spring Valley Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Hubert Caseley. In the absence of the president Mrs. Charlie Cole presided. and opened the meeting with the Ode and Creed in unison. Thirteen members answered roll call by paying 25 cents to the A. C.W. The sick committee had no. re- port, and the school cointnittee reported that the pencil sharpener had been purchased. It was agreed to get wash basin. soap, and tou- els. Mrs. Edgar Newson and Mrs. Witficld Yeo were appointed on the school committee for the month of October, and asked to see about a. water fountain.

It was decided to consider hav- ing a pantry sale.
