_ Dear John T.:- As members of lthe Central United Congregation and as friends. we are gathered here to-night for a very happy Iorcaslon. A few days ago you ce- ilebrated your 79th birthday. and we feel we cannot let an event like this pass unnoticed. And so we have invaded your home this evening to express our congra-l tulations and to wish you many more years of good health and

happiness. A few of us older ones can well remember the Singing Schools

conducted by Messrs. Turner and Shaw. where. your love for music i.nd your ability as n singer was, soon recognized. And for 50 years. you have as choir leader and in countless other ways used your musical ability to make life's road more pleasant for those in our community and elsewhere. _

In the church life of this section of the province you have been one of its outstanding members and for many years an honored elder and one whose seat is seldom vacant on the 10rd}; day. Honored in 19- 22 by the Presbytery of Prince Ed- ward Island. whenyou were ap- pointed a commisioncr to attend the General Assembly of’ the Pres- byterian Church. in Canada. held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. P- essed of a kindly and generous nature and endowed with the sterling qualities of mind and heart which seems so readily found in those whose lineage traces back to Scot- laucfs heathered hills. And the hospitality to all who came in con- tact ‘with you and Ivfrs. Ferguson and Mary is so well portrayed by the poet Burns in the Cutters Sa- turday Night when he says. “Does the weary traveller his care begulle and make him quite forget his 1a- bour and his toll." And now we ask vou to accept this gift as a re- minder of the respect and esteem in which you are held by the peo- pie of this Congregation and Com- munity.
