Give the barn a thorough good clean ing before the new crops go into it. Put tight ceilings over your stables and arrange for ample ventilation into the open air. Don’t ventilate the stables into the barn floor and have the roof Gripping with moisture every time there isa thaw. Fodder kept in such a barn is unfit for healthy food.

The Farmer’s Garden.

One reason why many farmers have poor success with their gardens is be- cause they grow the same kind of vege- tables year after year in the same place. A system of rotation should be follow- ed in the garden as well as on the farm. If this is done care should be taken to havea goodly depth of subsoil turned up each year. In/England a system of trenching is followed by some farmers, that is, digging the soil to a denth of two or chree feet accord— ing to the nature of the soil, and ad- ding a certain amount of subsoil to the sirtace soil. Barnyard manure is most valuable for garden purposes.— Ex.
