Former Island Girl Dies On West Coast

Word was received this mom- ing by Mr. Preston Rodd. Har- rington. P. E. 1., of the death on Thursday. September 26, of his sister Mrs. B. Frank Gates, 53, d 326 3rd. Street, New West- minster. B. C. Mrs. Gates was the former Bernice Rodd. a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W.'Rodd. She first left the province in 1910 and for three years taught school in Saskatchewan. Return- ing to the Island in 1922 she took Tlll'ulE'l' studies in P. W. C. and again departed from the pro- vince in 1924. Since that time she has made several brief visits to her island borne. Her death followed an opera- tion in the New Westminster Hos- pital. Besides her husband. who was formerly from West Royalty, she is survived by three sons; Frank. with the Standard Oil Company in from Glen and Brian of B. C. Two daughters. Margaret and Lynda also of DC. Also surviving are one bro- ther Prcston. Harrington: and three sisters.
