A General Annual Meeting ofthis Society was held in 'Mactlouell's Rooms. on the evening of Monday the 1st inst.. at 7 o‘clock. The Meeting was addressed by the Rev. Mr. Strong (the Chairman), Rev. Mr. Knox, and Messrs. Isaac Smith and Orlebar, in support ofthe objects of the Society.

This Auxiliary was first organised to February, 1849—more than two years ago—and it Will 'be seen froth this Report, that its operations, however quiet. and unpre- undinx. cannot have been unimportant in its influence on the public iniad throughout the Island. _ I

By the active canvass of members of this Committee, aub- ocriptions to the amount of £71 4s. 6d.. currency. were col- lected. and transmitted to the Parent Society, for the pur- chalo ol Books, and early in the Spring, an excellent assort- ‘ment of its Publications and Tracts arrived, and were de-

iosited for sale at the store of Mr. W. Heard; The supply of Tracts, to the value of £10, was gratuitous, and measures were early taken to spread and distribute throughout the Inland these little messengers of peace. Principally through the exertions oer. W. Heard, there was' also formed a Tract Distributing Association in this Town, and its opera- tions have been carried on hitherto with great zeal and standi- aess.
